Question
So I've already been freaking out about the flight overseas in June, and I figure it's time to really do something about it. I went to see a psychologist this morning and she's going to try EMDR with me. (I've known her for a while.) She says I'm a good candidate because it's one particular incident that causes the stress and anxiety. She also said Mike has to be with me because it can make you dizzy for a day or two - no driving after. It literally shifts your thoughts and memories about a particular incident and makes them "less". I won't remember the incident as clearly and instead, will focus on positive things that don't necessarily have anything to do with the incident itself.
Here's some information if anyone else is interested:

I'll definitely let you (and everyone else) know how it goes. I've been bitching about this fear since the plane I was on almost went down three times. From what I've read, EMDR hasn't been used very long, I think since only 2004, or maybe that's when all of the studies and trials were published. It has a great success rate for a lot of different anxieties, so I'm ready to try it!
I rec'd a PM about what happend to me, so I'll find the link and post it here in case anyone wants to read about the flight from hell.

It was first introduced in 1989. In depth clinical testing started about 1995. If you'd like some more in depth info (typical number of sessions before improvement, etc.) go to www.emdr.com. They have a really helpful FAQ section. Good luck!

hehe and I'm too much of a nerd to notice that you already posted it
Answer
So when will you be "fixed"?
I wonder if this is something that could help with my fear of international traveling.
Answer
From what the doctor said, it works better if there's one particular incident that triggers the fear or anxiety. Since mine stems from a specific flight, that is what she'll focus on. If you read through the site link posted above, you'll see the type of studies that have been done and it may very well help with that. I think it takes two or three sessions. The next appt. with her will be a double - the first 45 minutes will be explaining to me everything that's going on, and then the next 45 minutes will be the actual treatment. There's a link on that site that helps you to find doctors in your area - can't hurt to check!

I feel very, very dizzy, a bit nauseous and totally exhausted, like I haven't slept in days. The psychologist had to walk me out of the office while Mike got the truck. It's hard to focus - like Mike was asking me what I want to eat and I couldn't focus long enough to even think of what I may want. Because I didn't have breakfast, she said I may be more dizzier than normal. It can ease up after I eat, but the effect can last anywhere from two to five days. I have to call her everyday and let her know how I'm feeling.
I can't begin to describe the process right now, but I'll explain it later for those who are curious.
