Pink Eye?! UGH!

Question
I think I might possibly have the beginnings of Pink Eye. I've never had it, so I don't know. I tried to get Matt to take a picture, but it didn't work very well. My eye looks very bloodshot and the red veins are VERY clear all through my right eye only. It doesn't really hurt, but it feels sore like it's strained and it's kind of blurry very slightly.

[this will be gross] I took my contacts out and peeked at my eye. I thought maybe it was from getting soap in my eye this morning when I washed my face. After Matt attempted to take the picture, he said, "What is that?!?! Go look at your eye in the mirror!!" I went and looked and there was a big smear of what looked like gooey sleep in the corner of my eye. I mean a BIG smear.

I really don't want to have pink eye. I have the next two days of ANYway... but it'd be nice to have an excuse to miss work. but not for icky pink eye!!

Answer
Yep, it sounds like pink eye. I don't remember my eye being very veiny when I had pink eye, but the huge goop is usually a sign. I always felt it the most when I woke up and felt like my eye was glued shut....

Try not to touch it or touch your other eye...you don't want it in both eyes!!!

Answer
Also, do NOT put that contact back in your eye. You will only make it worse or re-infect it when you get it cleared up. Wear glasses until you can get to the doctor, you'll have to get drops to clear it up. I think usually after a couple days it clears with drops.

Good luck!

Answer
Dont forget to constantly wash your hands and make sure your dont touch your other eye

Answer
The other girls are right! Don't put your contacts back in and wash your hands really well. I can look at someone with pink eyes and I get it.

Answer
AND!!!

Throw away your mascara.

When I would get pink eye I would put a warm wash cloth on my eye every day I found it helped me when it started to itch. Plus it helps when you wake up and your eyelashes are glued together.

Take lots of vitamin C!

Feel Better.

Yeah, that helped me a lot. If (when) you wake up with a gooky eye that feels like it is stuck shut...use a warm washcloth to moisten the gook and pry it loose...it will feel much better and come off much easier.

Didn't somebody else on here have Pink eye recently? OMG it's not NETinfectious is it?????? LOL

Take care of it!! Sounds grossly fascinating!! I love gooey oozing things!! I know I'm a weirdo!

Answer
I am sooo not looking forward to waking up in the morning to a sealed shut eyeball. I'm trying to figure out where the heck I got it. All these years in customer service, I've never had it. I wonder if one of my cousins had it over Thanksgiving!!!

Is it completely necessary to go to the doctor? I just whine because my doctor is 45 minutes away (still near my parents) and if I can't get an appointment on Wednesday, I'm kind of SOL, as I work Thursday through Sunday

I do too. Strangely enough, I didn't dislike having pink eye....just the lack of friends it left me with.

LOL!

Maybe we should start a "weirdo" thread!!

I had Hepatitus (the viral kind) once and the jaundice part truly fascinated me! I was transfixed staring at myself in the mirror. "Wow...my eyeballs are yellow"

Answer
Is it possible for you to go to an immediate care? I really think you should go to a doctor. That way it can get diagnosed and taken of. You might want to look at walgreens and see if they have any over the counter eye drops.

Pink Eye if I think correctly is a form of an eye cold.

Answer
True pink eye is a very contagious bacterial infection of the eye. If it is true pink eye it will need to be treated with antibiotics, and a lot of work spaces (especially hospitals and schools) will not allow you to work until you have been on antibiotics for 48 hours.

There is also the possibility of an inflammation/irritation from the contact lens, from make-up, allergic reaction to something, etc. Flush your eye with lots of saline, get all the junk out, put a warm washcloth on for comfort. Throw away your old contacts.

Don't touch your face. If you do, immediately wash your hands. Wash the pillowcase, and any washcloths used separately in hot water with bleach.

If you continue to have copious amounts of gooey green, yellow and/or white drainage, you really need to see a doctor.

Yep Claire, that was me. Ick. I got it from my dog. That's how contagious it is - it's one of the only cross-species bacteria that can spread. I got eye drops and the redness was gone within the day but I had to stay on them for a week. Ick.

Answer
Well, it wasn't very gross when I woke up today. No huge amounts of goo or anything, just a little crusty and slightly blurry (there's your ooze update, Claire!).

Wynelle -- I would've never thought about my pillow!!

I can't believe it's so contagious! Well, I guess I went 25 lucky years without getting it!!!

Answer
It could just be an eye infection like Wynelle said. Usually pink eye gets worse before it gets better. Just keep it clean and don't wear any contacts. But I still think calling the doc is a good idea. Eye infections can turn into blindness if you're not careful.

Answer
I would go to a doctor for sure. Sometimes you think it is something and it can be something else worse. I wouldn't chance it with you eye. I hope it gets better soon

A friend told me today there's an eye infection going around (ew!) and that she has it right now. She said it's not pink eye but she was advised to buy over-the-counter pink eye drops for it. It's definitely not as red today as it was yesterday at all and after the nap I just took, it's not sore, either!!

(I'm kinda bummed at the lack of ooze)

I too am an OOOOOEY GOOOOOEY type person....I guess thats why I went to Medical school!

Answer
Hope your eye is feeling better!! I'm glad to hear that you don't think it's pink eye. I've never had it but I hear it really sucks. I had something once that I thought was pink eye and I went to the eye doctor and he said it was just some sort of irritation and he gave me some drops and it was better the next day. I'd recommend at least getting some over the counter drops.
