Nighty Night!

Question
I posted this in the Big Brother thread, but wanted to make sure everyone saw it and didn't think I fell off the side of the earth. I'm heading to a sleep clinic tonight around 6pm. I'll be spending the night there and then will go through other sleep/nap tests tomorrow. I probably won't be back on until tomorrow night at some point.

I asked about internet access and if I could bring my laptop and they told me no. I figured I would get some work done or at the very least, catch up on everything here. Oh the horror!

Let's hope I can sleep tonight and give them information to work with even though I'll be covered with electrodes. I'll see if Mike can take a picture but I don't know if my cell phone will work either. For some reason I remember not having a signal while in the bowels of the building, so I may not be able to get in touch with him. I'm really not sure of the set up so we'll see.

Have a great two days everyone, and I promise to post the Big Brother stuff as soon as I can! Think of me while you're watching it tonight!!!

Answer
Good luck! I hope you get some sleep so they can "fix" you!

Answer
Good Luck! I'll be thinking about you as I hook my patients up tonight!

The reason you can't have your laptop in the room is because it can interferer with the results. We had a guy have a I-pod that through the test off and he had come and do it all over. Some say cell phones can be a problem but the only problem we found was if they had it charging useing the same plug in the system was hooked up to.

Just relax and try to get some sleep!

Answer
Get some sleep girl!!! We'll be here when you get back!

Answer
I had a sleep test a few years ago and it was the best night's sleep I had in ages! The room was cool and dark and quiet and fresh crispy sheets!!

OMG- no net???? Whatever will you do?! LOL

Get better toots!

Answer
We have a lot of people tell us they slept better that night then they had in years. I'm not sure what your room will look like but are rooms are queen size beds with a TV and cable and DVD player in each room. It's set up just like a regular bed room is.

Answer
Yours have TVs? I hope mine does! Maybe I'll bring a couple DVDs just in case too. I have a portable DVD player but I'm assuming if I can't bring my laptop I can't bring that either. I hope you all know the reason I'm not looking forward to this is b/c I may miss BB!

I'll let you all know how it goes!

Answer
Man, that's the Ritz of sleep testing accommodations!! I had a single bed, no tv, no radio...I was allowed to bring a book but when they told me lights out, it was time for bed, whether I was sleepy or not! And with electrodes and things plugged on to my fingers...I was still able to sleep like a baby!

Answer
For insurance reasons we have to have at least 6 hours of study on you. To get a good reading on how you sleep we need at least 3.5 hours of sleep. If it is a young person under 18 we do tell them TV has to be off by 10:30 that just because naughty stuff starts coming on TV then and we are not going to be responsible for that. Plus if A kid can stay up all night and watch TV then thats what they will do. Most adults are asleep with in a hour of us leaving the room. It's funny cause they tell us they didn't sleep at all the night b-4. We can tell when you are asleep and how well you slept by what stag you are in. A lot of times that tells us who is just out there to use there insurance for the fun of it.

Heather I know how you feel! We also have TV we can watch but our hook up room don't. It sucks because by the time I get them hooked up it's already over.

Answer
Good luck Heather!

Answer
Good luck H! I think I would have a problem sleeping in one of those studies too. I would definitely need to read before bed, but if they told me to turn out the lights and I wasn't tired yet, I'd be screwed. Laying there awake in some strange room would wig me out. I swear I can't sleep well if I even am wearing a bandaid! Okay, not that serious, but you get my point.

Answer
Good luck girl, Come back with a answer as to what they can do for you!!!!

Answer
Good luck Heather!

Answer
Good luck girl. Hope all goes well.

Answer
GOOD LUCK, H!!! Keep us updated of course, and let us know how good you slept!

Answer
I slept pretty well. The room was like a nice hotel room actually. There wasn't a TV but that was okay. Today was so boring. They woke me up at 6am, put me back to bed at 8 for an hour. Up again, nap again, up again, nap again. It was tiring!

I'll get the results on the 14th.

LJ - What's up with the 537 questions? It was this booklet in which I had to answer True and False questions. It said mutiple-personality something...

Answer
I'm glad that you were able to sleep.....

Answer
I don't deal with the questions they do that in the office b-4 they will even set the appointment. It helps them find the ones that are doing it to make there insurance pay for something. Also it helps them find the people that just do it for attention. Was a lot of the questions repeats?

Answer
Glad it went well, and do let us know about the results!

Answer
A lot of the questions/statements were definitely repeats, just worded differently and it was all True/False. They were varied too: - "I like science." "I've smoked marijuana for enjoyment." "I like flower arrangements." "I would bend the law to keep out of trouble." "Sometimes I feel the need to swear."

I laughed at a lot of them because they're just so out of context. I wanted to write explanations but obviously couldn't, lol.

I'll keep you posted on the results! I'm dying to know if I really have narcolepsy.

ETA: I have a ton of wax stuff in my hair too. It's from the electrodes they had to stick on my grape. They told me to soak my head for 20 minutes in the hottest water I could stand to get it all out.

Answer
I do not have narcolepsy - whoo hoo!

After going through the results with me and discovering I don't have narcolepsy, we talked about the time when all of this (sleep paralysis, unable to sleep, hynogogic hallucinations, a.k.a. out of body experiences) and it started very heavily after the Sept. surgery.

What I realized that even now, when Mike or a cat moves in bed, I jump a little bit. Right after I got home from the hospital both times, Mike would sleep in another room for a few days b/c he moves around a lot in his sleep. When he came back into the bedroom, I was so worried about him or a cat hitting my back on accident that I pretty much slept with one eye open. Doing this for a while threw my sleep patterns off.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been sleeping okay. I take a half tab of Ambien when I need it, and so far so good. I also haven't had any weird experiences.

The questionnaire that I had to fill out measures clinical depression and I don't have the results from that yet. The doctor said she wouldn't be suprised if she saw a little of that only because of the surgeries. Having a Winter like I did can take it's toll, but like the sleep, that should return to normal too if it turns out it shows depression. If it shows depression I'll get a phone call next week to discuss options if necessary.

Thanks everyone for your support and kind words! You've gotten me through yet another crazy experience.
