What's Your Beauty Resolution?

Question
My New Years Resolution is to schedule my haircolor appointments at least 3 months in advance!
Hairdressers are the worst! I put it off and then get my hairdresser to squeeze me in!
Confession is good for the soul !

Answer
While considering my own problems with scheduled hair care I decided to write this to help others.

Answer
hey, Dr. L, what do you get highlights?
I found that coloring it at home (by using any person mom, friend, husband), is exactly the same as at the salon (or maybe I'm just blessed).
I did not have any hair resolutions. I am not even too sure what to do with my hair right now. I kinda like it long like it is right now and don't want to cut it off, but on the other hand it's a little harder to maintain...

Answer
You are blessed to have your hair color turn out well every time at home. For many, it turns out well the first time or two but then gets a little weird.
There are many types of highlights, some of them can be done at home. The ones I like have several shades of color and I have never seen them done well except by a professional.
This time of year, alot of women are confused at what to do with their hair.

Answer
I did that L'Oreal recent highlighting kit in "Iced Latte" (which is like the cool shade of blonde). And I'm pretty sure that we put it on correctly and it looked the way it was supposed to be looking (exactly what I look like naturally), and I'm never putting on highlights again I think they just look as if it's a natural haircolor and it's darker inside, etc. I didn't like it as much. I don't look half as bright and stunning. Of course, YMMV, what color do you highlight into?

Answer
I like to change my color from time to time. Not big changes - subtle changes.
I usually add two shades of auburn and a golden blonde. I prefer tiny strands of color not chunks.
Sometimes I add a touch of extra light blonde. I prefer a mix of three or four shades along with my own for a natural shimmery look.

Answer
I was always vary of reddish hues, because they are so difficult to get out if you reconsider. Or is it only true for lightish hair?
I prefer tiny strands of color not chunks
W3rd. Chunks can look good when the colors are low on contrast (like real low), but not when you mix blonde red and dark(?) like you do, that would just look clowny. On the other hand, same combination in tiny strands reeks of professionalism + sophistication. Kudos.
Can I do some kind of combination that would do the same to my hair? Please pick out the colors for me? My hair is light ash blonde, warm colors are not very good on me, and darker cool colors just look dull (compared to the darker golds and reds, which just don't look good with my cool skintone).

Answer
Warm tones always do appear 'brighter'. And you are right that cool tones can sometimes appear dull.
The best thing to do is to make sure your hair is as shiny as possible and choose the colors carefully.
I use "biege blonde" or "gold beige" tones in cool toned hair for a slightly warmer look without the 'goldy'look. Then sometimes you can really brighten it with just a few white-blonde strands scattered through the top.
I'm not sure what Colors that would translate to in the store since I use professional colors. I haven't had much experience in store brands for a long time.

Answer
Thanks Dr. L, that's an excellent idea!
