light roots dark ends! Dr. L help!

Question
I went in yesterday and got my brown hair dyed red. My roots turned out orange and the ends wre dark brown with a touch of red. (where i previously had permanent color 3 months ago) So, the stylist put redken shades EQ on the roots to darken them and it worked a little, but now when i go outside you can still totally tell! My roots are bright red and the rest is dark. My hair is about 4 inches long allover and very dry/somewhat damaged. If I try to lighten it (NEVER!!) it WILL fall out. I WORK IN A LAW FIRM!! Just started beauty school, but I am clueless on what to do.

Answer
Those roots are called "hot roots" and your hairdresser should have known that it would happen.
The stylist should try to darken the roots again and work with you until it comes out right. And/Or the ends can be lightened somewhat. I think you can lighten them slightly without any more damage.
To get an even color and a believable color (for a law firm) it will take a hairdresser to work with what he/or she sees. I can't tell you what to do unless you want to put Shades EQ medium or dark brown all over and get rid of all the red.
