Do I need to go bald?
Question
Im a guy and the thing is, I'm naturally straight haired, but there's a lot of dead hairs that don't seem to go away no matter how many times I cut my hair. When I say dead, I mean they have a lifeless appearance...they are curly, inflexible hairs that just pop up like annoying gophers and don't want to stay down even if i comb my hair down. After I wet my hair and it dries up it looks as if it's a badly made wig. I have tried things like Infusium leave-in treatment and I use crew shampoo and conditioner. It seems as if those hairs are dead from root to tip. Would it be a good idea to cut my hair all the way bald because I have not done that yet, and my hair is really getting to me. Please give me some good suggestions, I would appreciate it a lot. You guys are great! Answer Well, technically, except for the root, all hair IS dead.... I've never thought of hairs that pop up as lifeless. To me, that's hair that lies flat and does nothing. Are these hairs that are driving you crazy much shorter than the rest of your hair? You might talk with a stylist about changing the length of your overall haircut. I'm not sure if longer or shorter would help, so ask a pro. The male friends I have who have shaved their heads all did it due to thinning hair. Some were ecstatic with the results and became bald advocates. Some hated the upkeep or the shape of their skulls, and let it grow back to be a very short haircut. If you do decide to shave it all off, have plenty of sunscreen and a hat ready. Your scalp will be unbelieveably pale when you first shave it and very susceptible to both sunburn and temp changes once you remove all the hair. Answer No, the hairs are pretty much the same length as the rest. They're just curled up hair that pops out as if I had 5% curly hair and 95% straight hair. Someone...HELP! Answer Unfortunately I see that in guys every so often. They are usually on the sides - sort of side burns extended. They can be anywhere. They aren't anymore dead that the rest of your hair. They are just curly and dry. I guess if you think you might like the bald look, you could try it. Of course the little devils will grow back when you decide to grow your hair again. I wish I could help you more. Have you consulted a stylist to see if they have any suggestions? Answer I guess I should consider consulting a stylist. Thanks. Answer I've had a little experience with other peoples hair over the years and I think that the problem you are experiencing is caused by damage. I get the impression that the problem hairs are very tightly curled like a spiral spring? This is very often caused by brushing the hair whilst its wet (never reccommended) or combing it too quickly when its wet. Pulling tightly on the hair whilst its wet and at its most stretchy will cause it to behave in strange ways. Comb it out carefully starting about one inch from the tips of the hair (the loose end ) and work your way in ever lengthening strokes untill you can comb from the root to the tip without snags. If you do hit a snag, comb it out carefully. It may be worth investing in a good quality comb too with smooth teeth that dont scratch and damage the outer scales of the hair shaft. Moulded or injected plastic combs can cause severe damage to the hair shaft in my experience and a saw tooth comb available from most large chemists should be better. Perhaps a warm oil conditioning treatment applied weekly to the hair could help with the problem too. Fresh growth of the hair should grow out normally like the rest of your hair. I hope this helps. Sorry if I've mistaken your problem for something else. Good luck. Answer I recommend Nioxin for thinning hair. I have lots of my customers on it. They have a whole system. You can start off with there cleanser and the scalp therapy. It helps you keep the hair that you have. I have men and women who swear by it. It may seem costly but you use a small amount. I see that you use crew so it should not be much more than that. Answer I know my mother really recommends the Nioxin. It is not that expensive and a little dab will do ya.... It just occurred to me that a good conditioner may not bbe a bad idea...or a hot oil treatment? It helps women with loads of fired hair. Love is not simply something you fall into; but rather, something you do.... Roni |
