what to do with roots?
Question
Hi! A great forum you have here! Really good advise! My problem is with roots (1.5in long). My hair is naturally dark dishwater blond on the crown but lighter blond on sides. It's shoulder lenght and thin and very pourous and very light goldenish blond with a few stripes of different shades showing next to the roots (at crown area only)due to home colouring(terrible, i know!). I'd want to make it more natural-looking. I'm thinking either highlights on the dark regrowth areas to make the clashing blend in better while it grows or trying some darker blond semipermanent colour - what do you think? i can't afford to go to a salon. The damage for the hair was done when i had it professionally coloured dark brown from blond last july and it turned out horrible. Had to bleach it numerous of times at home. Lowlights were attempted mid-november at a salon but they wanished within weeks... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks! Answer You say that your hair is very porous. Dark blonde semi-permanent color will be safer but will probably wash out just like the lowlights did. I would probably put in a FEW highlights at the roots to blend the new growth. Condition, condition, let it grow, cut it shorter and then try for a better color. There are also pigmented shampoos that will help tone your hair to a more even color. They only last for one or two shampoos but will help you grow out the damaged hair. Answer Many thanks for the great advise! I didn't even come to think of pigmented shampoos. What kind of colour would be suitable to balance things out? Light brown? Although the roots are varying shades of dark blond? So far i have managed to stay away from any treatments(colours & highlights) and twist into hiding those ghastly darker areas, but soon i MUST do something. So shall see what's available at the drugstore of my town. Thanks again! |
