Balding process: How long does it really take?

Question
Hello,

This is my first post on here. Ok, let's begin...

I'm a 32 year-old, white male and I've noticed that my hairline has been receding a little bit. I noticed a very small gap where I part my hair to the side. I looked at some pictures of myself from a few years ago and last year, and I noticed that I had more hair in that area than I do now. I still have plenty of hair, and actually, that small gap is barely unnoticeable, but I see a difference, which matters to me.

Here's what I wanted to know...I found an old picture of my grandfather (mother's side) and in that picture he was bald (few hairs on the sides). Now, in that picture he was about 38 or 39 years old. Considering that I'm 32 now, is it possible that I could go bald before I turn 40 just like my grandfather did? Am I following in my grandfather's footsteps? I have no idea what his hairline looked like when he was my age. I assume he had much less hair at that age than I do. I haven't really been losing that much hair. A few strands of hair would come out after a shower, which is normal. It's not like I've been losing clumps of hair or anything like that, nothing out of the ordinary.

Anyway, I heard that the balding process can take a number of years to happen. I figured that if I do eventually go bald, it would probably happen in my early-to-mid fifties or late forties? Does that sound about right or no? I mean, there's no way that I can go from the hair I have now to complete baldness within the next 6 or 7 years? Can it? If anyone has some input on this, I kindly appreciate.

Thanks.

Answer
I know people who go completely bald in a few years, and some that take many many years. I'm 19 and had the receding hairline.. I started taking Saw Palmetto(herb) and my hairloss has actually stopped. Do some research on it, it's amazing

Answer
Hey Brian,

Thanks for the response. I will look into it.

Answer
Brian, there are a lot of different "versions" and amounts of Saw Palmetto out there. I'm just curious to know which Saw Palmetto you're taking...

Answer
Brian,
how saw palmetto are you taking per day, in milligrams.
I have heard of one individual who takes 1600 mg per day.
what is your daily dosage?

thanks,

Larry
