Myasthenia Gravis possibly induced by Botox!

Question
:shock:Legal News Watch- Rebecca- Yesterday was the anniversary of my mom's death. She was treated with Botox every 6 months over a 5 year period for condition called Blepharospasms. Last year in May she became unable to walk and had slurred speech. After 3 months of grueling tests and work-ups they determined she had an "unusual" form of myastenia gravis. She was in the hospital for a total of 6 months and was in complete misery. She became ventilator dependent because the myasthenia impaired her lung function and passed away from complications. I feel the myasthenia was induced by the Botox. There is one other documented case that I could find. I did write the FDA and I reported my beliefs. I am glad to hear and eager to see the report that you are referring to from the FDA on the topic. People need to be aware that this is not a a drug that you have "parties" about. If we had ben aware of these serious risks I know we would have considered other options for her blepharospasm therapy. ( Rebecca 12-11-2003)

After having had botox for frown lines and getting no results and then reading this and other posts I am about to the point where despite feeling like I look mad all the time I wouldn't have it again if it were FREE! I'm very sorry to hear about your mother's terrible experience! Since I found out years ago that I have a gene/HLA blood factor that greatly increases the tendency to get Myasthenia Gravis I should perhaps consider myself lucky that the botox didn't work since I would have continued to have it!
It would be interesting to see if any more info comes out on this subject. Since the eye area is one area affected by MG does anyone think it's possible that the Blepharospasms were actually an early sign of MG and the botox therefore was not a contributing factor? Can anyone know for sure?

Hi,
I dont know if this is useful to you.
But I am just wrting it to provide
some input to your research.
If it is helpful, please reply back

I am from India and wear a turban on
my head. This is what my religion
wants me to do. Well, I have noticed
many people who twitch their eyes as
"Blepharospasms" describes it. And, I
have noticed the people who wear a
turban around their head, suffer more
often.
I dont know:
1. Whether wearing a turban is inti-
ating Blephemosplasms.
2. Whether wearing it in a wrong way
is intensifying Blepharospasms.
3. Or, wearing a tight-turban causes
a pull of hair internally, which may
lead to a head-ache and twitching of
eyes.
This is just my observation cause I
also wear a turban.
When I googled for Blepharospasms, I
was really surprised by some of the
articles which talked of how bad it
can get. Personally, I have not seen
anyone in such advanced stages.
I also involuntarily twitch my eyes,
and feel that it due to dry eyes. But
I think its more than that. I sit in
fron of a PC for looong hours. That
may be the reason of dry eyes.
But, one more observation is that
for me, I have twitching only when my
eyes are dry and not otherwise. Well,
something deeper is causing both
twiching and dry eyes and red tint.
I understand that reasearching about
something is dependent on the inputs
one can gather. I just hope that this
information might be of some use and
leads to guys in the right direction
to find a solution.
Do contact me if you want to know
anything more.
