Male back laser hair removal -- in Toronto

Question
Hi
I'd like to get your input on multiple points:
1. What laser to go for? I'm Type IV most likely. East Indian background but quite fair (light brown). I know Yag is very popular and recommended here but i was looking over this NYC doctor's website and he seems to like Epilight a LOT, even for dark skinned folks:
2. Any specific recommendations in Toronto? I believe only Baywood Clinic has Yag. Sunnybrook hospital and Yonge-Eglington Laser clinic have LightSheer. Espada has Aurora. I don't suppose all these are good enough for my skin complexion and powerful enough for back hair removal (coarse on my upper back)
3. How many sessions? I understand this is variable and depends on the individual response. But is 6-7 about normal?
I'll probably have more questions, but these'll do for now. Thanks!

Oh one more!
Can men hope to achieve any degree of permancy?
Look at what the NYC doctor has to say on this:

Answer
first of all, this is a biased appraisal of a device that this person uses. There is no validity to any of his statements. It's an IPL and he praises it because he uses it. Everyone will say that their laser is the best. They're trying to do business and make money. Doesn't mean it's in your best interest.
Yes, a Yag laser would be best for you. There are various models available, check the FAQs for some of them. You can run provider searches on some manufacturer sites to find specific places in your area that use them. Yags work well on coarse hair.

Answer
I would never have laser hair removal with an IPL. Maybe a photofacial! But never laser hair removal. You're better off sticking with lasers SPECIFICALLY designed for hair removal like the diode, alexandrite and YAG. For your money you want the best shot at permanent reduction, right?
Expect to go AT LEAST 6-7 times. Some mean have reported upwards of 10-12 sessions and that is not an unreasonable number of treatments. It takes awhile. Anyone claiming everything was bald after 5 sessions is failing to disclose all the details.

Answer
I'm also a light skinned East Indian and should have looked around for a Yag laser so I recommend you do that. Sorry, I don't know who uses one except Baywood. I though that Sunnybrook did too but I guess not. If you do a search on "Toronto" on this board you may find names of others. It's funny but a lot of us on the board who are being treated in Toronto are skin type IV.
I'm being treated with the LightSheer diode. Good luck!

Answer
Ok, Yag it is then. So by default, it then comes down to Baywood clinic, right? The other one I need to check would be Medispa or something like that on Avenue Rd....run by two really hot female plastic surgeons.
But I have to ask for academic interest -- did you guys read the literature on that NYC doctor's website? He says very clearly and I thought he was the only one trying to keep long term track of his paitients...and he says that Epilight works real good.
So have you guys checked out his claims?

Answer
this guy hasn't tried other lasers. he has no way to tell what the results would have been like with any other laser and if they would be better than the 45% he saw from his "studies". a study involves a constant, where you can compare things. he never compares anything. he just uses his one laser (IPL rather) and reports on that. I can tell you that with my GentleLASE treatments, on bikini and underarms, I got about 95% reduction, not 45%. Just an example.
in addition, he treats twice 3 weeks apart at first -- which is WAY too early for your second treatment. you're not supposed to have any hair at that time yet if he didn't miss areas. that's usually a way to get more money out of the patient, because there is nothing to treat yet since treated hair has JUST shed, so technically it's a waste of money.

Answer
Hi Serpent!
I just did my arms with a yag laser at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic
You can check the prices in this site and this is really a good timing because they're doing a 50% off promotion.
I did it 2 weeks ago and still waiting for the results. I'm kinda afraid that i have to go back there for some touch-ups because i believe they used a low setting.
Anyway, you should try there

Answer
Yes, they use Lyra.
The place is nice! My only 'complain' is that the technician that did the treatment on me is very young and i'm pretty sure doesn't have a lot of experience..that's ok with me.. they have to start somewhere..but i believe she used a low setting so probably i'll have to go back there for touch-ups. Everything else was great though.
I hope this help you

Answer
Well.. i'm still waiting for the results.. gotta wait 1 more week to see if there is any shedding.. only after that i can really complain.. i'll let you know.
Anyway, if you worried about that just ask for a experienced technician.
Let me know how it was.
Good luck!
