question about Laser Hair Removal (LHR) versus Electrolysis

Question
I have just started my research, and many of these postings were very informative. I am wondering if I can get some insight. After reviewing Fitzpatrick-Pathak Skin Typing Chart, I would assess that I have fair skin (with pink undertones), type II-III, and I have majorily dark brown hair.
I am interested in getting my whole face done. I have been waxing my face for years, and I am now interested in getting "permanent" hair removal. One reason is the upkeep with waxing and constant plucking, and another reason is I break out severly after waxing (the acne usually lasts about a month, so I'm tired of having break-outs).
Therefore, I am wondering what would be the best, Laser or Electrolysis. I have a combination of course, medium, and fine hairs on my face. I wouldn't mind so much about the fine hairs being removed as I am more concerned about the course, dark hairs.
Conversely, I also do not want to have patches of hair that would then lead me back to waxing (again waxing leads to pimples for me).
Please advise.
Also, what would be the most cost effective (I want the best deal)?
I appreciate any insight. Also I'm located in NE, and I can only find one clinic. Do you know of any? Would dermetogists or plastic surgens offer these procedures?
Thanks!

Answer
can you describe the hair pattern and type of hair a bit more? usually, laser is ok if you have coarse and dense patches of hair at least. and you should make sure they avoid treating any areas with very fine hair and/or vellus hairs. if you have more fine sparse hairs, then electrolysis is a better option. to find practitioners, try running a search using the search box above or you can also check out provider searches on the laser manufacturers' websites lik Candela corporation which makes GentleLASE.

Of course, without knowing more details, it is hard to tell. If I was a woman and wanted to get my face done and there wasn't a huge amount of hair, I would lean more toward electrolysis. I would do this because there have been reports of women having dormant follicles stimulated by laser and end up having more hair than what they had when they started. Also, electolysis will probably be cheaper.

Answer
Well, overall my face mostly has a combination of fine and medium hairs everywhere (I'm Italian and what I consider is very hairy); however I do have some areas of coarse hair.
From top to bottom for my face:
- My forehead has very coarse, dark hairs at my hairline (I would have a widow's peak if I didn't wax my face).
- The apples of my cheeks and my nose mainly have the very fine, blonde hairs. However they are noticeable with my finishing powder (over my makeup).
- My upper lip had medium, semi-dark hair. I would definately like my "mustache" removed.
- My side cheeks (sideburns) down to my chin line have combination of fine and medium, semi-dark hairs. I definately have sideburns (from how my hair line is formed) but they are not coase hairs (like my widow's peak). However the hair starts to get finer and lighter as it grows toward my chin line.
I hope this doesn't make me sound like a hairy monster. I am probably my own worst enemy. I am just more hairy than the "average" woman (as my esthetician has stated she only has a few clients that do whole face waxing).
I hope this gives you more insight. Please advise.
I appreaciate your help!

Answer
it definitely sounds like electrolysis is your best option with your type of hair. i suggest you find an experienced electrologist and start working on the problem. you can read the electrolysis part of this forum for more info. good luck.
