No success with electrolysis, and scared of laser removal.

Question
I came to this board because I was determined to get rid of those pesky 60 or so (80?) hairs of my chin area. I am Type I - Type II, fair-skinned with fine dark hair.
For 5 or 6 years I did the electrolysis route, but I couldn't say if it helped at all. After moving away from recognizable civilization, I haven't used any method for the past 5 years besides the occasional plucking or snipping. Now I am determined in getting rid of the things again.
The thought of stimulating more growth by trying laser removal is so terrifying that I don't think I could go through with it even if it were the best option.
Electrolysis didn't seem to help. What can I do?
I have fine mustache hairs also with a few coarser ones, but I would only try to remove all these if a guaranteed miracle could do it -- otherwise I would feel like a hair bulliten board, advertising both my removal schedule and my success and failure with hair management. I used to have a few random ones taken out with electrolysis just to decrease the hair density.

Answer
laser will not do you any good on fine hairs. electrolysis is the best method for that. laser can even stimulate more growth for that type of hair as you said. it seems weird that you had electrolysis for 5-6 years and it didn't work. it sounds like the electrologist wasn't experienced enough. it does take about 9-12 months to achieve good results due to hair cycles. when you say it didn't work, what exactly do you mean? also, how many actual treatments did you have? with what electrolysis method? 5-6 years seems like a long time. did you go on schedule the entire time to get hairs in anagen stage of growth when hair needs to be killed the entire time?

Answer
I went to one lady for most of that time. She performed Thermolysis, and I would guess I went every month or so (probably more frequently in the beginning and less at the end -- maybe every 2 or 3 months? I don't remember). She is well-reputed and experienced (over 20 years).
During the five years of treatment, I didn't have all the hair I do now, but I had enough to fill the 15 minute sessions on the above-mentioned schedule... for years and years and years, til I moved out of the area.

Answer
Just out of curiosity, how old were you when you started that electrolysis regimen?

Answer
I had my arms done by electroylis. You need to go more than onece every two or three months. You need to go weekly to get all the hair in different growing stages. If you are consistent about a regular schedule it will work. You must also deal, however, with any medical conditions that are causing continued hair growth.

Answer
I also had electrolysis on my chin and after about 4 years it finally worked. I moved around a lot during that time, and I must have been to at least 10 different electrologists, and I got very different results with each of them. So it really depends on who is doing it. Even though you've already gone thru 5 years of treatments, I would recommend trying electrolysis with someone else for at least a year consistently before writing it off. And don't pluck! Best of luck...
