Answer
laser is not painless. it's marketing hype. it's a different type of pain, but effective laser treatments are not any less painful than electrolysis. the only difference here is that with laser on that area there is a possibility of hyperpigmentation on her skin type, more hair growth than what she started with, and in the best case scanario, no results. at 13 you probably should help her avoid a decision she will regret later and btw, there are numbing creams available to reduce pain although i don't find it that painful. i guess the people on here who really want the hair gone permanently "suffer" it for the opportunity to get rid of it permanently. i guess it depends on how much you want it gone is what makes the difference. there is no way to avoid the needle though although she won't even see it if doign the upper lip. she'll probably have her eyes closed and the whole treatment each time will take 15 mins.
Answer
Everyone says laser is like rubber bands snapping you... mine felt like they were sticking me with tiny needles at a rapid rate..
Answer
Do you have an electrologist in your area that does both laser and electrolysis? If so, the electrologist could determine and honestly counsel your daughter on which method is preferred for her particular problem. I have seen 13 year olds with facial hair that laser would be the preferred method, but those are few and far in between. I normally don't see clients under 14. My youngest client is 10, but she's an exception. Her mother was a client, and the daughter came with her and knew what to expect. Younger teens in general have a much lower tolerance than someone in late teens/early 20's. My personal opinion on tolerance is the longer you have dealt with the hair and hated every moment of it, the higher your tolerance is to get rid of it.
Answer
I had my upper lip done via electrolosys, and recently had a test spot done by laser (bikini area) and I would say the laser was more painful. Perhaps you should have your daughter go for a test spot, so she can see how painful laser actually is.
Also, another thing to keep in mind. I personally know 2 people who had laser done on their face and now have more hair than they started with (the dormant hairs started coming out).
Good luck.
Answer
I had laser done on my face and regret it so much. More hair grew back. so now I am fixing it with electrolysis.
