Question
I just had my first laser hair removal treatment. The technician recommended GentleLASE because my hair is darker than my skin. She thought that GentleYAG would be an overkill in my case.
However, I am Skin type IV, with olive complexion. During my treatment, I didn't feel any discomfort. My skin wasn't even red.
Now, I read that GentleYAG may be more appropriate for my skin type.
Here are my questions:
1. Could you share any experiences related to the difference between GentleLASE and GentleYAG?
2. Should I request GentleYAG next time just to be safe?
3. If my skin is not even red after the treatment, does it mean it's not working?

Thank you for your reply. It seems right on the money.
You mentioned that the settings were probably not high enough for my skin (olive). What should the settings be on the GentleLASE to be effective? I don't know anything about that...

Answer
settings on GentleLASE should usually be 18 joules and up (up to 30 etc). For finer hair, definitely 25 and up. But if your skin is olive, you will probably burn at high settings, probably anythihg over 16-18 or so. No way to know without doing test spots. That's why Yag laser is probably a better option.
