Question
Ok, so I got laser on my underarms yesterday and there is STILL hair....Am I suppose to shave it off? Is it suppose to come off itself? I was under the impression that the hair would come off. Anyone know?
Also, I got laser on my upper lip done around end of December...I had NO hair for a couple of weeks, and then all of the sudden, I noticed this weekend the hair came back I tried scrubbing on it, and taking a hot shower to see if it sheds off, but it didn't....What's going on here?
Thank you!!!
PS: I'm light skined and dark haired.

Answer
Amanda, it should take 2-3 weeks for your underarm hair to fall out... you can shave it if you want, you might notice that you can pull on hairs in a week or so and they just slide right out. I shaved mine because the hairs kept getting stuck to my shirt...
Also, if you are seeing regrowth in your upper lip area, this is hair that was not in the active phase of growth when you got this area lasered in December. Your laser tech should have explained that when you see new hair growth is the time to come back for your next treatment. You will need around 6 treatments on your upper lip (usually) to get the lasting results...
Makes me wonder what kind of place you are going to... they should have explained this information to you. You could have gotten your upper lip done yesterday along with your underarms. If you go in for your lip, you can ask them to explain the whole process if all this doesn't make sense to you. Don't be afraid to ask. You are paying for a service and they should take the time to sit down with you and make sure you understand all of this so you will get the treatment you are paying for.
Answer
I am really questioning the place you're going to if they didn't explain how the process works and what to expect. I'm sure you're paying a lot of money for this, so it's just unacceptable that you don't know the basics. Also, just curious, did they have you shave the area before applying laser? Laser should be done on shaved skin.
Like kaitlyn said, shedding takes 2-3 weeks and you will see new hair that was dormant before come out a few weeks later. That's when you go in for your next treatment. You will need 5-6 treatments on any area treated.
Answer
i've had some minor problems with ingrowns after laser. they were corrected with followup electrolysis on what fairly little growth remained.
Answer
Hello!
Yes they did explain the basics to me. It's just that the laser tech said the hair (upper lip) should fall out by itself when I'm showering, or I can take it off myself by scrubbing it off with something hard. It didn't come off, and now the hair is pretty evident. She told me not to do anything to it, wax or anything like that. What should I do? Just wait it out and see if it falls?
Yes,I shaved before getting underarms done.... the laser DID take the hair off from my underarms and it was smooth for a day, but now it all grew back and I'm still in the process of waiting for it to come off on it's own.
Thank you!
Answer
all hair treated with laser will "fall out" within 2-3 weeks. you can only shave while waiting for this to happen. scrub gently with a loofa in the shower to help the process.
Answer
You mentioned that the underarm was smooth for a day. I am assuming you mean that was the day after the treatment. The hair that looks like its growing back should be the dead hairs working their way out and they will shed in 2-3 weeks. Then, you'll have a hair free period. When hairs start go grow back after the hair free period is when you start considering setting up an appointment for the next treatment.
Answer
If you only had laser on the 22nd, then it is far too soon to expect to see shedding. Don't scrub your upper lip. I wouldn't even use a loofa on the face. The rough side of a wash cloth is enough. If it bothers you, shave until it all sheds, but absolutely no waxing or tweezing.
Answer
laser on the underarms is great, probably your best bet given where prices are.
my only beef with laser is that i've had some problems with pesky ingrowns, which, for some reason seems to happen more frequently with laser vs. electrolysis, but that's just my own anecdotal experience.
your alternative is electrolysis, which works, but my god in the armpits it is painful after 15 minutes.
