Question
I'm going in for my first laser hair removal session on Monday. I am getting my full face treated. My skin type is I believe a IV. I am light-skinned Indian. I was wondering what settings should be used. The other question I had was whether I should shave the day of, or the day before.

Hi Jaz,
I only know that the Coolglide test spots I got were at 50 and 55J and I am a type 4. I don't think I will be able to stand anything much more than that on a large area like legs. I don't know whether the Gentle Yag settings would be same or more, unfortunately.
Good luck!

Hi
I have been working with gentle yag (nd-yag 1064 nm) on my clients about 5 years. There are different parameters one can use, for-instance with a change in spot size the # of ojules (jules is a measure that is used to measure the energy of laser) used will be different.
I would recommend a 12mm spot size, 10ms at 16j to 22j, 40 croygen spray for cooling and 40 delay (I also always have my eyes for density of the hair on the area of treatment, The more hair per square inch the more of the energy will be absorbed).
I also recommend to shave as close to your treatment time as possible. The reason behind this would be the fact that when we are working with lasers for hair removal we are only concerned with the hair in the follicle and anything above the skin only causes unnecessary discomfort.
