Question
I am wondering how many people would like to see product referrals removed or edited from this board.
As much as we'd like to keep it moderator free, we cannot have misrepresentation of products or companies by anonymous users.
I realize it is a very tempting venue for guerilla marketers of new products, but that is not the purpose of the board.
All comments are welcome.
thank you

Answer
What exactly do you mean by product referral? For instance, I am a consumer being treated with the Aurora and am extremely happy so far. Is that a product referal, or are you talking about a Professional laser practitioner or electrolysist that is promoting themselves. Or are you talking about companies promoting their products. What exactly are we voting on?
Answer
from what I understand , this is a forum about laser hair removal.
And should be kept that way. (that means, DELETE away!)
however, questions and answers about shaving, waxing, and electrolysis, are appropriate.
Answer
I still don't understand. Maybe you can give some kind of example about the posts you find offensive?
Answer
If you mean my post (and others like it), I think they are appropriate for this board.
They are an aspect of laser hair removal that does make a difference to consumers of the service.
We are about to open a clinic (not in the US, incidentally) and are investigating a variety of machines.
All of which are expensive, and the manufacturers of each are claiming theirs is the best for the purpose we have in mind. (local variations / proportions of skin type, cost and availability of spares and support, etc)
I asked for opinions from this board, as it appears to be an unbiased source of information.
As stated in my initial post, we have experience with other machines, but have not yet seen the machine we are leaning towards in operation yet.
We will next week.
If asking for info of this type is contrary to your terms and conditions, or even your accepted practice, delete away.
If it is not, and someone is able to provide an unbiased view of the device in question, please feel free to let me know what you think of the machine and why.
When making significant purchase decisions for my self or my business, I explore *all* avenues available before making the final decision.
I don't own one of the machines in question yet, I certainly don't market them, and for all I know (until I see one close up and try it out), they may be crap.
To me, this is an appropriate use of this board.

Answer
BTMO,
I am not referring to your post. That is a very legitimate question here. We are more concerned with a couple threads that have been about different personal hair removal products and dropping url's to gain sales or visitors from this forum.
As it stands, if the thread sounds like a sales call or advertisement and is posting urls it will be moderated accordingly.
Thanks to all.
Answer
Thanks for the rapid feedback - I appreciate it, and your thoughts on the matter.
Just a couple of other points...
I have chosen to remain anonymous (and believe me - I hate that!) as the hair removal industry in the country I am in is tiny.
Equipment suppliers and competing clinics occassionally go to work through the same front door...
We are setting up in competition to this, and we really feel we need independant input, hence my question.
I appreciate the vigorous nature of some of the discussion on this forum, and the frankness of some of the posts.
Of course, the BS filter must be firmly applied to some postings, but that is the nature of any conversation - most people have an agenda be it overt or otherwise.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
BTMO
Answer
The people who post here need help, and if that help includes product recommendations, I see no reason why other members shouldn't tell them about the products they have used. I would draw the line at links and URLs, but if someone wants to know how to defuzz her legs without shaving or laser, I'll tell her about Nair or whatever other depilatory is on the market that I know about. I don't think that's a misuse of the board.
But I don't think explicit referrals to other websites are appropriate.
Answer
I think the administrator is ding a good job of clipping/ editing when it is clear that the forum is being used for advertising purposes. The mention of brand name laser manufacturers or product names is not the same. These are helpful for providing information to users. There have been a few cases of repetition which were almost certinly advertisement efforts...and appropriately ended by the administrator.
Answer
Please keep the forum free of ads. I am here to get unbiased opinions and if even nudges to products from marketers come in, the purpose (in my opinion) of these boards is compromised and I will go elsewhere.
If people wish to search for products they will have no difficulty in doing so. Unbiased information is harder to find.
