Question
If you shave right after a laser treatment, does it effect the "shedding" of the hair or will the follicle fall out regardless?

If you shave right after a laser treatment, does it effect the "shedding" of the hair or will the follicle fall out regardless?
Answer
You amy shave at any time before or after treatment and not effect the outcome. We usually advise you not to shave for the few days after treatment simply because the skin is a little sensitive at that point. When the skin feels normal...shave away.
Answer
If the laser kills the root of the hair, why would one shave after laser treatment. I mean, does the hair continue to grow?? I understand that there is a shedding process, sort of. Does the laser kill the root right away or does it take a while to figure out that its dead?? Or, after being dead, the body gradually shoves out the dead root making it look as if the hair is growing??
I've read some stuff about not plucking. If one has to pluck shortly after LHR, is it because the body hasn't "let go" of the hair folicle? If that's the case, then will the body eventually let it go and cause the shedding?
I guess I would like more detailed information on the PLHRSS (post laser hair removal shedding syndrome (new acronym))

Answer
When the hair follicle is burned underneath the skin, it takes a few days for the body to heal the injury, ie for inflammation to decrease and for the skin to eject the now "dead" (no longer actively growing) hair and to reabsorb the injured hair bulb.
What you see on th surface is a slow ejection process of the now "dead" hair. Slicing off the portion of the hair shaft which is above the skin (by shaving) makes little to no difference to what is happening under the surface of the skin.
Answer
Thank you.
As a follow-on questions, if the bulb of the hair is dead immediately upon LHR, will hair slide out without having to pluck it? If one pulls on a hair and the surrounding skin protrudes with the base of the hair, does that mean the hair is still attached to the bulb? Does the hair remain attached to the dead bulb for a while after LHR?
I thought I've read in some of the threads how hairs will just slide out after LHR. It's been five days and I have not had that experience. I guess that's why I've got all the questions. Perhaps its too soon or perhaps there wasn't any effect?
Answer
I am on my second treatment out of six. After my first treatment it took me about two weeks before I saw any difference, I had little pimple like bumb on my chin, they told me to use a efoliating scrub to help loosen the hairs. I also notice the hairs that were dead were darker and they did slide out if pulled on them. The laser doesn't kill them all the first time you need to go for a few treatments. I would love to know how everthing is progressing for you.
Answer
Today is day-6 after LHR and none of the hairs slide out. If they are pulled, the surrounding skin is pulled up with them so I don't pull any further. Should I understand that it could be several more days until they detatch from the follicle and will slide out??
Answer
After the first treatment it took abour 2 weeks before I noticed them just sliding out. Now on my second treatment day 9, and just last night I was noticing them coming out when I pulles on them. They also told me to use a efoliating scrub to loosen the hairs. I would give it a few more days, don't worry I am sure you will see some results soon. Are you noticing any hair darker then the others? I noticed that the darker ones were the dead ones.
Answer
Okay, thanks. I am hoping it is a matter of time. No, I can't say that any hairs look darker than others, though. At this point, I haven't been too encouraged so I hope things will improve in the next week.
The "laser" used was the Aurora DS and the technician said that she was being conservative due to a residual tan. Hopefully it wasn't too conservative. During the treatment, I certainly felt the "rubber band snap" most of the time. A lot of the time, it was just noticeable. Sometimes, I didn't feel a thing. Other times, which were only a few, it was quite uncomfortable. I felt a slight burning for an hour or so afterwards and there were a few small red areas for a few hours then they disappeared. From what I read about others, these symptoms sounded conservative in comparison. Given these conservative symptoms and the persistence of the hair staying in place, I was wondering if I was under treated.
Of course this is a new experience for me and I went into it expecting to see quicker results (naive, of course). So, if you've had to wait 14 days after your first, then I still have quite a bit more time to pass judgment.
Thanks,
JJS
All input is welcome.

Well, it's day 10 and no change. After reading Richard's dilemma in another thread, I am really beginning to wonder if my treatment wasn't effective. Richard said that the hair on his arms stopped growing after the treatment. To me that makes sense. If the follicle is zapped during treatment, it would seem to mean that it would stop growing. If shedding process appears as growing hair, then I may need to be more patient. It would seem to me, however, after 10 days, there should be some loose hairs here and there. I haven't found any and there is no difference in the shaving pattern.
Watcha think??
Answer
so, what finally happened?
did your hair fall down?

From reading about the Aurora on the internet i've got the impression that the Aurora acts in a very different way from conventional lasers, i.e. only after a number of seemingly useless treatments do you find that all of a sudden the hair disappears.
i think also at the moment its too new to really know how well it does or does not work
i maybe wrong
Answer
Well, it has been over three weeks and I think there has been some shedding. It hasn't been obvious. There are some areas that appear to have lost some hair and most areas don't seem to have changed. In the areas where some hair seems to have been lost, it occurred rather subtly. I mean, I didn't the shedding and there doesn't appear to be any hair there. It makes me wonder if there was hair there in the first place. So, that's a good sign.
So, I guess there is some encouragement because, even though the technician was being conservative, there may be some hair loss. By the next time, my tan should be fairly well dissapated and a more agressive approach may be used. That will be a determining factor.

Hi,
I kno this may be totally irrelevant, but can I use emjoi to shave before I go to a laser treatment, cos emjoi removed the hair from the root when u shave and i kno that u're not meant to wax a month b4 the treatment, is that mean i can't shave using emjoi then?
Cheers
