Looking into Laser Hair removal

Question
Im a man in my mid 20s, Ive always been a bit on the hairy side but my back and shoulders have alot of hair on them.
Ive been thinking about getting my hair removed, sorry if I sound ignorant but is it permanent or is it a treatment you have to keep getting on a regular basis?
Im white, fairly pale and i have light brown hair but all my body hair is dark brown.
Just wondering what my options are, its embarassing to have a hairy back.

Answer
laser works well on light skin and dark coarse hair. basically, the darker and more coarse the hair, and the lighter the skin, the better the results because high settings can be used on the laser, which will be more effective in killing the hair forever. for most people, results are permanent. but most will also need 1-2 touch-ups per year to catch any new hair growth that ppl get with age, if any. there is a very small percentage of ppl on whom it doesn't work at all. get a few consultations, make sure they're using the best laser for your skin and hair type and know what they're doing (using high enough settings) and get a few test spots done. best lasers for you are either diode or alexandrite type.
