coffee-brown, south asian girl looking for NY laser center

Question
My skin is a deep brown and my hair is black. I am looking for a good, safe, reliable laser removal service. I am especially cautious because of the potential for burning or scarring with darker skin tones, though the YAG laser seems better at treating patients with my skin type.
I do not mind more treatments at lower settings, if that means safer treatments and better results.
Also, how much do you think it might cost to treat the upper lip, chin and cheeks of my face at a center in the Manhattan area?

Answer
Yag lasers won't burn your skin. they're made for darker skin types. using low settings won't mean better results. that will mean not enough power to actually kill the hair. you always want to max out on settings, as high as u can go without burning your skin basically. full face is around $250-300 per treatment. get a few consultations and compare. romeo/juliet in NYC uses Apogee laser, which is a Yag as well. you can try them as one of ur consultations. they're recommended on these boards.

Answer
Hello,
Yes you are right, YAG is designed for all skin types, in particular, people with darker skin. We have been using a GentleYAG for the last 4 1/2 years. And we have had excellent results with it. Usually the type of laser is important because the skin itself has pigment and most lasers on the market for hair removal are designed so they do interfere with the pigment of the skin as well as the hair. GentleYAG is a 1064nm, it is the only laser on the market that has coolent in the same appliance. The term that is used "dynamic cooling device" a gas called cryogen is used to cool the surface of skin before the laser itself is aimed. It is fast, reliable, efficent and the latest technology in laser hair removal.
We have been using lasers at Azure Day Spa and Laser Center for the last 8 1/2 years. We are happy to say we have excellent client satisfaction that rank us one of the top laser specialists in NYC.
The princes of laser varies but price itself should not be a determining factor for choosing a facility to have this delicate procedure. You have one face and you have to look at it everyday in the mirror. You want to have peace of mind that you are recieving the best you can possibly get. Accidents happen and there is always one chance that something could happen in any planned situation. But unnessesary risks are not the way to go for removing the hair from your upper lip.
It takes an average of about 10 -12 treatments to get rid of the hair altogether permenantly. And it is advised to do that about once a month on the upper lip. But the price varies from anything between $90 - $400 per treatment depending on where you go. If you are interested, you can always contact us and we would be more than glad to arrange a complimentary consultation for you.
Good Luck and we wish you the best in your choice.

Answer
if correct settings are used and treatments are spaced apart right, you shouldn't need more than 6-8 treatments, especially on a small area like the upper lip. 10-12 is a bit much.
