Brown-skinned in Atlanta

Question
I am somewhere between skintype IV and V and I'm looking for a LHR recommendation in Atlanta. I had a consultation with American Laser Center today and the deal they offered was great, but I'm not sure if the laser will work well for my skin type. I believe it's Aurora. Anyone have a good experience in the Atlanta area so I don't waste $1500 somewhere else? I want to get my full leg done.

Answer
I've had treatments done with Aurora and have had fairly good results (type III). However, I don't know how effective it would be with darker skin because Aurora is basically an IPL with radio frequency. I think IPL's have a tendency to burn darker colored skin at higher levels.

Answer
If you can find a place with a Yag, I think you'd be better off.

Answer
for your skin type, you need a Yag laser. Aurora is an IPL with RF technology. I would only use it if I had light colored hair. Otherwise, you're better off with a Yag like Sciton, GentleYag, Coolglide, Lyra etc

Answer
Hello, My name is Mina Bowker I specialize in laser hair removal at Azure Day Spa & Laser Center in New York City for almost 9 years. I have worked with many different light devices for hair removal and I believe your instinct about IPL and your skin type is right on the penny.
Generally speaking, Laser is a mono light (single light) which works the best in hair removal. IPL is a mixture of different types of light and to work with it, it requires a lot of skill from the operator. About 90% of people that operate IPL's for hair removal are not as skillful as they should be. Therefore the result is going to be very poor.
Also the best type of light for darker skin would be a Yag. My experience in the field has proven that Gentle Yag (from Candela) works the best for any skin type 4 and over. It is the only laser in the market that has got built in cooling. Cooling is very important part of procedure of any light device hair removal.
Also Gentle Yag has got the largest spot size as far as the lasers go in the market. And it pulses 2 times per second, this enables the laser specialist to be able to give you a very satisfactory treatment within a very good time limit. To find out where you can go in your area, you can go online and go to Candela's website.
You should be very choosy about the consultation you will receive. You need to be informed of all different hair stages, intervals of the treatment, and how laser works in your given consultation. A consultation is not about how much it will cost for the treatments, it is about you learning how laser works and what to expect.
We wish you the best of luck, and lots of hairless moments!

Didn't ask about any refferal bonus. Don't know if they do that.
