new to this-- Alexandrite laser

Question
Hi everyone... this is my first post. I have been reading posts for about two weeks now, this is the best forum ever! I have been struggling with hair growth on my chin for about 10 years now. It all started in high school when some punk said my chin was fuzzy so I went home and shaved it.
Anyways, I decided to check into lasers in my area (Cinci)... I wanted to try the lightsheer diode, but they are much more expensive and want me to pay upfront for 6 treatments before my first treatment.
I found a place that uses an Alexandrite that offers a FREE 1st treatment and consecutive treatments are $150 each, which is half the price of the diode... I already booked an appointment for my free treatment, was just wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with the alexandrite. I am very pale with dark brown coarse hair, I stopped plucking so I could get the laser treatment but I have to shave it at least every day, so it is very thick. Thanks! Kaitlyn

Answer
if it's that thick and coarse that you have to shave everyday and you have light skin, you should get good results with laser, so good luck. what kind of alexandrite laser are they using? make sure they use high settings.

Answer
She didn't say what kind of Alexandrite it was... I didn't really know what questions to ask. I asked how it compared with the lightsheer diode and she said the Alexandrite was a 775 wavelength and the diode is an 810.
I really hope it works, this is a really big deal to me... when I went to boot camp (over 6 years ago) my main concern was whether I would have time to shave and not the physical demands that most people are concerned about. I don't approach people because I don't want them to see the hair growing back... sometimes I can't shave every day because it gives me a rash so the in-between days are hard for me.
I also wanted to add that my husband has been really supportive through this. He has never said anything about my problem after 4 years of marriage and I know he noticed it on our first date. It's like he is able to see past it, and I was able to actually talk to him about it for the first time after reading discussions on this site... I guess because I realized this is a common problem and I'm not alone in this. Just wanted to thank everyone who uses this forum and whoever started it to begin with!!! Kaitlyn

Answer
good luck. you should get good results. alexandrite is a good laser for you. don't be afraid to ask what laser they are using and at what settings. it will help you guide your treatment better and make sure they're doing whatever is in your best interest and will get you the best results. Make sure the joules they are using (settings) are at at least 25 or so to start and they increase them with every treatment.

Answer
Thank you so much, I will post results as I get them!
