Answer
Yes, you must avoid the sun between laser treatments. It's wise to wear a sunscreen as well. A year may seem like a long time, but when you reach your mid 30s, early 40's, you'll wish you had stayed out of the sun all together. It ages your skin so fast, not to mention skin cancer and all the ugly age spots.

Answer
thankyou for your reply, if a yag laser is used, do you have to avoid the sun for a year?

Answer
with yag, it will be better. but in any case, the higher the power used, the better the results. yag doesn't work well on finer hair, especially at low settings. if you really want the most hair gone, you need to avoid the sun.

Answer
Remeber that laser will target the pigment. If your skin is tanned, there is more color in the pigment and therefore attract the laser to it. (Diverting energy away from the follicle.) If the skin pigment is targeted and the energy is channeled in that direction, you could be burned.
I understand that the yag has a longer wave length and penetrates deeper (by-passing the outer layer of skin pigment) which is why it can be used on darker skinned people. However, I think high settings on darker skin has a higher risk factor for burning.

Answer
Yes, you can tan and use a YAG. It's one of the selling features the manufacturers boast about. I have had several clients do this. BUT, the results were not nearly as good as when they stopped tanning and used a diode or alexandrite.

Answer
Thanks for the replys, very helpful.
