laser schedule

Question
I had my first laser session yesterday on my bikini area. It was done by a dermatologist. (Cost $250) He said that I will need 3 sessions two months apart.
I had this done without knowing anything. I just stumbled upon this website today. So I don't know what kind of laser was used, but the nurse that stood by watching said I had 62 jolts (or something like that. I thought it meant I was hit with the laser 62 times, but I'm not sure.)
Anyway, after reading messages here, it seems that it will take more than 3 sessions, so it will run into my summer and I wanted this proceedure done for this summer. But I'm not supposed to get tan, right?
1) would it be bad to take a break during the summer and start the sessions again next winter?
2) after getting a session how long do you have to wait to tan safely? Do you have to wait?
Thanks!

Answer
best results are on white skin and dark hair. the lighter the skin, the higher the settings that can be used. laser on tanned or dark skin can cause hyperpigmentation and burns. you'll get the best results if you follow the treatment schedule. if you have light skin and dark coarse hair, you'll probably need about 5-6 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart.
