Question
I was wondering if anyone has been to Baywood Clinic in Toronto? I am a light skinned Indian female and am looking to get LHR on my face.
I had a consulation with a doctor today at a different clinic. She uses a lightsheer diode and did a test patch at 18 joules. She said to start off at a low setting and work up from there to see how my skin would react. The redness went away fairly quickly. About a half hour later.
She also said that since I am Indian I would most likely need about 10 treatments 6 weeks apart. I asked it would be better for me to use a Yag laser and she said that the lightsheer should work and that the Yag would take longer. She is a very reputable dermatologist and I don't think that she would recommend that I use a lightsheer if it won't work.
I hope someone out there can help. I am a little confused. Actually very confused. Thanks.

Answer
Jaz, I just went for my first treatment at PURE med spa. She used the LightSheer diode and the setting was 30. She said that she would increase it by a few joules the next treatment. I could feel a lot of prickling so I'm assuming that means it was working. Some areas I didn't feel any prickling but those were areas where I know I don't have any hair.
I didn't have a big reaction to it. Just some redness on the pores and some bumps but not many. I had it done on my legs and arms so this skin is probably less sensitive than facial skin. It's been about an hour since I had my treatment so it may be a lot less by tomorrow.
My second appointment is scheduled for 6 weeks from now.
The technician who did my treatment is of South American origin and is a bit darker than I am (especially my legs which are very pale) but she has naturally bronze skin where as mine is brown. She said that she'd been getting treatments for the past year and it was working well for her. She had been a technician for the past 10 years so she seems experienced. I could also tell that she was being very careful to make sure no areas were missed.
Overall, I was very happy with my treatment. If you're light skinned like me I think you should be fine with the LightSheer. Mind you, I haven't gone through the shedding period so I don't really know how well it's worked.
Answer
You should only be using LightSheer if you can handle at least 30-40 joules. 18 is definitely too low and may actually stimulate more growth on woman's face. LightSheer is fine if you're light-skinned Indian, type IV or lighter.
