Question
Well I am a male , 20 years old, having hairs treated on my ass and perianal region. My hair is drark brown, fairly coarse but some is finer. These hairs have been here since i was atleast 15, very embarrasing i kno, and the amount of hair had up until now, seemed totally unchanged. Finally after much procrastination I decided to go in and get a laser treatment. I have had 2 treatments Thus far, spread 2 months apart. THe first treatment was with a Lightsheer at 40-46 joules, depending on the sensitivity of the area.
I noticed some shedding, black hairs definatley falling out, but still I definatley had patches of regrowth in certain areas. I went in for one touchup n she pretty much touched up my entire ass and i noticed some more falling out but still it felt stubbly. As soon as 8 weeks had been up, I decided to go to another clinic, also using light sheer and had my second treatment.
Its been 5 weeks tomorrow since my second treatment. It was with lightsheer, once again using 40-46 joules depending on the sensitivity of the region and optipulse setting. I used no freezing this time, which was definatley painful, but worth it because I feel like I could assess what was going on much better.
This time the results have been much more pleasing. I definately noticed shedding, many of the hairs easily fell off when I scrubbed my self gently with a lufa in the shower. I have been moisturizing my skin and exfoliating and my skin seems totally unaffected.
The area it self has seemed to have patchy results. On the outside of my ass cheeks there seems to be areas that are completely smooth. I cant tell if this is because all of the hair has simply fallen out of if its because the hair is just stuck in a 'slow growing stage.' With me it seems that after a treatment a large portion of my hair grows out.. perhaps to like 1 or 2 millimeters and then just stays at that length or either grows EXTREMELY slowly...and im beginning to wonder if that means the laser worked, or he didnt work.
I am currently examining my ass under an extremely bright light...it really shows all the ugly details (ie just exaclty how much hair there is) but I can definately see whats going on.
Right now some of the hair is definately normal length, as long as any of the hairs on my legs so I can tell those ones were either completley unnaffected, missed by the laser, or new growth.
Then as I look around I see alot of what you call "pepper spots" these black spots that are submersed under my skin with hair that is dead but one come out. Sometimes i can exfoliate and get rid of those or pick at them with tweezers.
I also have hairs which has penetrated the skin and is fine and relatively short maybe 2-3 millimeters and seems to be growing really slowly. If i try to pull em out with tweezers they dont really budge so i just leave them in. I am wondering if these hairs are 'new hairs' or hairs just missed or unaffected by the laser? Is only 2 treatments too early to tell if all the hairs will be affected?
Some areas appear nearly completley smooth as I have said, and they feel completely smooth as well which defiantely makes me happy..but under the light when I grab the skin and stretch it out. I can see what looks like faded red spots on my skin, pressubly where the hair was, and I cant tell if that is the 'empty follicle or like space where the hair was' of if that means a follicle is still growing. If you have a faint red spot on ur skin when you stretch it out...does that mean the hair has been completley killed or its still there. I guess only time will tell, I am just extremely paranoid that a new hair will creep out of all those 'empty hair spot'
For example some of the spots that look and feel extremely smooth... when I get really close to them under the intensely bright light and stretch my skin as much as possible I can see tiny tiny hairs in some areas.
Im just wondering if after succesffuly laser treatments... your skin looks completely smooth and even skin tone, of if you still have like empty sorta faint spots where your old hair follicle used to be? Also does laser work to destroy the hair completely... or also make hairs finer and finer until they are relatively non existant?
Anyways, I will keep you updated on my progress and situation and try to get some pictures taken of the areas(although its an extremely difficult angle).
Thanks alot!!

Soda123, I'm a female and after 1 treatment on the legs I have exactly the same results. I have the same questions you do. Can someone please advise?
Answer
Soda,
It sounds like laser is working for you. You have to realize that not all hair is in anagen (first stage of growth) phase when you get treatments, especially the first 3 or so. And only hair in anagen can be killed. That's why some of the hair is gone completely and some remains. Also, techs are not perfect and they miss spots, which attributes to some patchiness. If you have large pores where the hairs are/were, you are probably going to notice them more once the hair is gone. The "red dots" you are talking about sound like large pores. btw, what is your skin color/type? If you're darker than a type III, it can be a results of being treated with LightSheer on high settings too, called hyperpigmentation. Hard to tell just from a description.
Pepperspots are dead hairs. They just take longer to come out. They're short pieces of hairs stuck in the follicles.
The premise of hair removal is that you go in and kill hair in anagen phase each time. that's why you need multiple treatments because only about 30% or less of hair is in anagen at any given time.
