Question
i'm looking for information about success of laser treatments on male back and shoulders. the info i've found so far has been 50/50 with a lot saying it did nothing and some saying it worked great.
what type of laser would be ideal for these areas of the skin is light and the hair is dark brown to black?
also, what is the average price for these areas for a full treatment?

Answer
I just started treatment on my back, my second visit is in about 3 weeks. Your skin type is simliar to mine, The center I went to for treatment has a few different types of lasers, they used a LightSheer on me.
I paid $2,400 for 8 treatments at Celibre Center in Orange, CA. This center has a guarentee for results. I'm thinking about getting my buttocks done as well. I have always been self-conscience of those areas, so I a decided to to do it.
Answer
for those areas on a male, you have to make sure they are using high settings, because these areas are stubborn. this shouldn't be a problem with light skin. either a diode or alexandrite type laser is best. LightSheer that the above person is using is one example of a diode. prices really vary from place to place. best to have several consultations to find the best price and best most experienced technician combo. generally, the range is $250-500 per treatment for that area and you'll need 6-8 treatments for good results.

Blink...your comments are always helpful.
How do I know if the laser settings are high enough?
I've only had one treatment and notice re-growth which I've learned in common after one treatment. As I mentioned in my above post, I am going back for second treatment in a few weeks.
What should I ask for? Do I ask to increase settings? Or, do I trust the tech? I guess many of you here on this forum are so knowledgeable and know what to ask for, I'm not so knowledgeable about Laser Hair Removal...but trying to learn.
What suggestions can you give me for my next visit?
thanks.
Answer
what is your skin and hair type? If you have pretty pale skin, settings on LightSheer should be 25 joules and higher, gradually increasing with every treatment. 40 joules would be great if your skin can handle it. Basically, the higher the better as long as your skin can handle it without getting burns. Of course, you need a tech who's not afraid to push the limits just a bit and test higher settings. Short pulse is more effective than long pulse also. So high joules and short pulse.
Hair grows in 3 cycles, so you will definitely see hair growing back in after 1 treatment. It's new hair that was dormant before. At any point, only 30% at most of hair is in anagen growth stage, the first phase of growth when hair can be killed. So you won't kill more than that even if the tech catches ALL hairs at one time, which is rare. That's why most need 6-8 treatments to catch all hairs in anagen and kill them.

Thanks Blink,
My skin type is type 3 and dark hair. I'll find out what the last treatment settings were last time and see if I can get them to push it up a bit.
Thanks again!
