Answer
I only treat clients on Accutane if their doctor gives written permission. I've never had any problems with it.
Answer
There is no reason not to do electrolysis while using Accutane if you so desire. You may want to hold off for reasons of comfort because your skin is more sensitive at this time. Accutane changes the function and structure of normal skin. A decrease in oil production persists while you are on the drug and for several months after the drug is discontinued. Your skin is very dry because it is under attack, so to speak, when you are taking this sloughing agent. Electrologists do hesitate to work on skin that is already in a state of constant irritation and then be blamed for creating unwanted side effects that are not associated with electrolysis.
If you proceed with electrolysis, your practitioner may have to reduce the timing and intensity recipe for your skin and use insulated probes. This will help lessen the redness, crusting and pain. Alcohol products should not be used to clean your skin before or after electrolysis since alcohol drys and burns irritated skin. You can expect more reddness, increased pain and more skin irritation, generally speaking, while having electrolysis.
Postponing electrolysis on the face for 1 month after you stop Accutane is not unreasonable, unless you are in a big rush to have this area treated. I have treated clients who use Accutane and it really is not a problem as long as special precautions are taken. There have been no reports of any increased scarring when electrolysis has been preformed if that eases your mind. It is really your call whether to wait or proceed.
