Question
hi there im new to all this but im very interested in getting laser removal on my legs. I am fairly pale skinned with dark hair, does that makes me a good candidate?. I have loads of ingrown hairs on my knee area and have shaved all my life and its no good, so today i got my legs waxed with still no joy and i would love to be able to have hair free legs and not worry about my ingrown hairs. Could someone tell me the price range itl cost me to be hair free, is it a long process? im not really bothered about the pain, its just the money its gonna cost me. Thanks in advance x.

Answer
you're a good candidate. find an experienced tech with either alexandrite or diode laser. you need to grow hair out before laser for about 1 month at least and shave before the treatment. you will need 6-8 treatments, but legs are one of the best areas to get affected, so you should do fine, especially if the hair is coarse. laser is attracted to dark pigment, that's why it works best on light skin and dark hair. the power goes directly to the roots to kill them.
cost varies, so have a few consultations and compare prices. price per treatment ranges from $150-300 for lower legs. many places give discounts for paying up front for several treatments.

thank you for the reply, i live in the uk so dont know how much price wise itl work out, but i should have said really. Anyhow do you mean for my first laser i should not have shaved my legs for about a month? my god il look like a gorilla!!. Have you had laser on your legs? is it worth the money?. I may just see if i can get my knees done as this is my main problem as i have ingrown hairs thar i cant get rid of even using that skin doctors ingrow stuff. Do you think il be able to just get both ny knees done? then it wont be as costy?, thanks in advance x

". . . so today i got my legs waxed with still no joy . . ."
You need not look like a gorilla, if you don't want to look like one. I think blink was referring to waxing as waxing pulls out the roots. You need to roots there for laser to work. You can shave all you want before and after laser treatments. It is usually recommended that you shave just prior to each treatment so that there isn't any hair protruding above the skin line. The laser targets the dark hair and if there is dark hair above the skin line, it'll be zapped, too. This could cause some burning of the skin and will reduce the amount of laser that needs to go below the surface to target the roots.
Answer
yes, i was referring to the fact that you need to stop waxing ahead of time. you can shave all you want and HAVE to shave before the treatment. you can get just your knees done. you will have to negotiate the price with the clinic. yes, that would be cheaper as it is a much smaller area. if you have coarse hair, you will get good results.
Answer
yes i will, thanks again to you both for your help x
