Question
Hi I'm new to the forum and just started laser hair removal on my upper lip, chin, and sideburns last week. It wasn't very painful and my face wasn't red at all. My hairs haven't fallen out yet, but I hope that happens soon. (Do the hairs fall out all at once or one at a time? In other words will I notice the hair fall out?) I also hope that the treatments work and that eventually I will be hairless or at least have less hair in these areas. The only thing I don't like is that I have to shave between treatments which are one month apart (is that a normal time frame?) I've waxed and tweezed for years and shaving my face feels weird. I'm afraid that I will have a five o'clock shadow like a man, especially above my lip. I bought an electrical trimmer, which is said to be softer on a woman's face than a razor. Is this true? Also, is there a way to cover up/lighten the shadow that remains after shaving? I've tried using foundation and it helps, but is not that effective. Any advice is appreciated.

Answer
what laser was used on you? you barely felt anything? usually, the face is one of the more sensitive areas and if you have coarse hair, you definitely should have felt something.
you can only shave between treatments as hair roots need to be there to get killed. hair sheds within 2-3 weeks and usually one by one, so you should start noticing hair falling out when you wash your face etc. shaving doesn't make the hair thicker, it just feels like it sometimes since you cut it off half-way, where the shaft is a bit thicker than the ends were.

go back in for treatment as soon as a bunch of new hair comes to the surface. this is usually around 6 weeks from the first treatment. after everything sheds within 3 weeks, you should have a bit of a hairfree period.
