Question
I called up the clinic to inquire about the type of laser that is used and the receptionist told me they use a genesis (not sure about the spelling) laser. I've never heard anyone mention this type before so I'm wondering if maybe there is another name for it or something?! I live on a small island and this is the only place that does laser hair removal so its my only option. I did ask whether they treat all skin types and she said yes so I'm not sure what to think. I'm black but I have relatively light skin with dark hair so I'm assuming a Yag laser is the right one for me based on what I've read on this message board. If anyone has heard of a genesis laser please let me know....

I haven't been able to find any laser with that name. Do you think she might have said GentleLASE and you misheard? If yes, this is an alexandrite and good for light skin only. It is not a Yag that you need on black skin. My recommendation would also be to run a provider search on both the Cutera and Candela websites (laser manufacturers) for the Coolglide and the GentleYag, respectively, laser practitioners in your area.
