Lightsheer Diary of treatments

Question
Hi everyone, today I had my first LHR session with the LightSheer. I decided to write down my experience as it happens for those who may find it useful, informative or perhaps answer any questions. Before deciding on which laser to use and which clinic to goto I visited this sight frequently and was grateful that people were sharing their experience. I am 22 years old and I am having brazillian bikini, upper thighs, happy trail and underarms treated. After having patch tests done with both the Lightsheer and GentleLase, I decided for me that I had the best results with the Lightsheer. For those of you considering LHR do go for patch tests before you sign to a clinic as then you atleast have some idea what you are in for and do as much homework as you can. It pays to be an informed consumer.
I started with my underarms set at 32. It was slightly uncomfortable, but certainly not unbearable. The tech then moved down to my happy trail set at 38. This area really didn't bother me at all. Moving down to my Bikini I got quite a shock. The tech lowered the laser back down to 32. The outside area (the crease where leg meets pelvis) was not so painful but closer in right on top of the pubic bone was painful. The tech explained to me that the darker and coarser and closer together the hairs are, the more painful it is. My pubic hair (the lump sum of it) is very dark, very coarse and very close together. This area felt like she had tweezed 10 thick hairs at the one time (if that makes sense) I grinned and bared the pain. No pain no gain. The inner bits (labia) were sensitive too, but again bearable. The hair on my upper thighs is reasonably dark, but no where near as dark or coarse as my bikini area. I wasn't feeling much so the tech upped it to 40. I felt something then but nothing like the bikini area. Because some of the hair was too fine and light on my thighs she also went over my bum cheeks. I know that sounds strange, and I didn't request it. She said if there is hair I may as well get rid of it. I wasn't going to argue. It was smoothe sailing after that. Elastic bands is a good description of the pain in this area. More like a sting.
All in all the experience was no walk in the park, but I'm still alive and hopefully closer to being hair free. Also, I did not use any numbing creams. Even though it hurt quite a bit, I think I will steer clear of them for now. I feel very comfortable with my tech and she is very honest up front and realistic and knowledgeable. That is so important. Just as important as the laser itself. After treatment surprisingly my underarms are giving me the most discomfort. It feels like I have been sunburned. I did experience immediate shedding on my bikini and underarms. Right now all areas are still slightly pink and raised with lots of "pepper spots". I do think you should speak up if you don't feel anything especially if your tech doesn't ask. If you don't feel anything it is not working. I also believe that your skin should show some form of reaction as that is proof that it has treated the areas. However there is a difference between slightly raise skin and pink discolouration and burns and scars etc. You will know if you have a problem. Well I hope some one out there may have found this helpful. I will continue to keep posting as the weeks go by, but for now I will sit back and wait for the hair to DIE!

Thank you very much for your diary. I had a patch with lightsheer 2 days ago on my leg; I have coarse and dark hair on my lower legs and much more finer hair on my upper legs.. I asked for 2 patches (?! sorry for the bad English...).. I felt absolutely NOTHING and nothing happened. The tec set the laser at 25.... too low??? She told me that she wanted to check only the reaction of my skin... and that she will set "better" the laser during the treatments... I am worried because of the hair on my upper legs: they are not at all coarse ... how could I know if the laser is doing a "good job" in order to obtain a permanent reduction and not only a "long term removal".....???? .....

Answer
25 is on the low end. For LightSheer, you also need to consider the pulse width. You should feel something like the snapping of rubber bands when treated. If you don't feel anything, it's not high enough. The feeling is a lot more intense when the hair is coarse and there is a lot of it close together. I would get another patch test. Isn't this the whole point of seeing if you will get results? Wait 2 weeks post your treatment and see if the hair that was spot treated sheds. If it doesn't, it didn't work.
jajabazar, did your stomach/happy traill have any reaction post-treatment? I notice that since my hair is finer there, I don't feel as much during the treatment and the redness went away right away...just wondering what others' experience on that area is..

Answer
Blink, yes post treatment my happy trail is still red and raised. Today is the day after treatment. I believe the tech set it at 38-40 for this area. I didn't feel much pain either except for just above the underwear line. My hair was reasonably fine too, dark yes but not as coarse as bikini. It is not as irritated as yesterday but the hair follicles are still red (looks like a rash)

Answer
Italian, I think perhaps the settings were too low. If you felt nothing, it didn't work. You should definately feel some pain/discomfort even with just a test patch. Before you sign with that clinic, I would either ask for another patch test at a higher setting or find another clinic and ask them. If you feel nothing it is important to tell your technician. The test patch is supposed to give you an idea of how your hair will respond to treatments and to find out what setting is best for your skin and hair colour. Definately try again at a higher setting.
