Question
I am a 29 y/o Male with reddish/blonde hair. I have been shaving my chest/pubic/underarms for the past 6 years and am interested in laser hair removal. The hair on my chest and pubic area is darker (more red) while the hair on my legs, underarms and butt is blonde. I am interested in recieving laser hair removal on my entire body (everything from neck down). I know that this is going to be expensive and am worried that any place I go to will only see dollar signs and treat me even though I may not be a good candidate for the procedure.
Can any one tell me with blonde hair and light skin, what can I expect to be the regrowth rate after about 6-8 sessions?
What laser system would be the most ideal for my hair/skin type?
Any ideas how expensive would it be? (I live in NYC)
Thanks!

Answer
blond hair cannot be treated with lasers. if they are telling you otherwise, they want your money. Comet is a new diode laser with RF technology that claims to work on blond hair. If you're going to try one, that's the only one I would suggest, and try it on one small area first and see what happens after 1 treatment before you commit. Aurora is an IPL with RF technology that claims to work on blond hair, but I haven't really seen anyone post any positive results from it. And I would stay away from IPLs in general.
Now, the reddish hair, you MIGHT be able to remove using a diode or an alexandrite laser at high settings if you do have light skin. You should also get a test spot first to see how your hair will react before committing to this as if it's too light, it won't work.

My friend, a bonafide red head (on her head and her body) was refused by a clinic. Laser does NOT treat red hair, the way it does NOT treat blonde hair. Just wanted to add that in.

I have had laser treatments on my upper lip, chin, and neck areas. The laser worked great on my black hairs, but I have just as many course blonde hairs now that are left. It has already cost me $600. The PA is now telling me that I need to buy this $75 bottle of something called Melanona (not correct spelling). This stuff is suppose to make the hair shaft dark so the laser can pick it up. After using this for two weeks I go back to do the first laser treatment which cost me another $186 (each session). I haven't yet done this because for one the price, and I'm trying to research if this really works or not. I was told on another forum that I needed to try Electrolysis.
So I'm trying to figure out which would be the better route to go. So far I haven't heard from anyone who has done the Melanona. Anyone out there heard or done this before:?: I have so many blonde hairs that Electrolysis would take forever and majorly painful on top of that.
Anyone with any suggestions or help I would appreciate your info. Desparate for advice on this problem.
Thanks!
Answer
it's called Meladine. You can run a search on any of the forums. Most posts from people who have tried it say it doesn't work. I suspect it is because it's almost impossible to darken the ROOT of the hair with it since it's deeper inside.
Answer
I agree with Blink, I looked into Meladine but everyone I spoke with said the same - really does not work even when you follow the directions perfectly. If you think about it the product has been out for years and if something like that did work, we would all know alot about it by now and there would be a bunch of happy hairless blondes! There has to be some way and alot of people are working on it. I've done just about everything I can think of, short of hiring a chemist, but my upper blonde legs still have hair.
Answer
someone on another forum is using the new Comet laser, which is a diode with RF technology. it's a new laser that claims to work on light hair as well. you can probably try that too, and be sure to post your results
Answer
Aurora Elos = another laser that claims to remove blonde/grey/red hair using RF technology.
Answer
Yes, but Aurora is an IPL with RF and Comet is a diode with RF, so I would assume the diode is a better option just because it's a more powerful machine.
