Removing hair down there...

Question
My husband has suggested that I have my hair down in the pubic region removed by laser... I'm tired of always shaving down there. Has anyone had this done, is it safe, permanent, painfull? What's the average cost for an area of that size? I am fair skinned - blonde but darker hair down there.

Answer
Laser Hair removal in the bikini and pucbic area is common and is just as effective as any other area (90% of patients receive 85% permanent reduction of hair).
This is a sensitive area, and some patients will ask for anesthetic creams prior to treatments. Most patients describe the treatments as "tolerable".
Full pubic treatments will average $400 to $1000 per session, depending on your location. You may need 4 to 6 treatments.

Answer
For years I've preferred an entirely smooth bikini area because it helps "wick" away the sweat when I run. Goes right into running briefs instead of hanging out in the hairs.
My first question is whether the laser removal method makes the skin more sensitive to sweat-related rashes. Sometimes my skin, after conventional shaving, is irritated, but I've found the best answer is a fresh razor, and fully drying that razor to avoid any bacterial buildup.
Next question concerns how far along the panty line (think cotton panel) the treatments usual cover. It's possible your procedure covers only the frontal area, when obviously for my purposes we're talking a more comprehensive approach.
Thanks for guidance

Answer
The area treated by the laser will perhaps be sensitive for 3 to 7 days, but after that, you are free to sweat and exercise just as before. After you are done with your series, you will probably find your running to be more comfortable than ever.
You can laser your hair to whatever extent you choose. Many patients request "more complete" removal thatn the standard area covered by a bikini wax. Mar sure the laser operator is comfortable getting closer to the labia. The skin is often darker here, so laser settings and machines may need to be reconsidered to allow for this.
