Answer
If you have peach fuzz, I wouldn't touch it with laser. Get electrolysis instead. Laser targets dark pigment, best for coarse hair, and fuzz just doesn't usually have enough. It could actually get worse if you have laser done there since some experience those follicles get stronger instead of being killed (women's face area) because there isn't enough pigment to actuallly kill the hair. I wouldn't recommend it for you, but generally upper lip costs $50-100 per treatment and you need 5-6 treatments. Eletrolysis costs about $60/hr, so it would probably be cheaper for you anyways and you won't have to have the area before treatments compared to laser. By the way, you will need your parents' approval if you're under 18.
Answer
I'd go with electrolysis over laser for the upper lip. I'd be worried about causing more hair growth in that area if you got laser.
By the way, it's possible to get laser at 17 if they don't ask you for ID. They ask you how old you are, and you can pretty much say anything you want. Do you like really young? If not, then say you're 19 and if they ask for ID, go somewhere else.
Answer
can someone tell me about electrolysis then? like....after one session...will hair grow back to...a visible state. then i would just go back and have a few more sessions..then over time it would lighten...then eventually...the follicals would die?
does it hurt?
does it take long?
Answer
electrolysis removes each hair one by one. the electrologists inserts a needle and sends a "heat" pulse into the follicle which kills the hair. (this kind is called thermolysis which is the one that's usually used on the upper lip). It will probably take 15-20 minutes to clear the upper lip. About 50% of the hair will probably be killed permanently the first time, the others will need 2-3 treatments. Also, remember that hair grows in several stages and can be killed in the first, anagen stage. So you will need several treatments to catch all hairs in anagen stage. This usually is achieved over the course of 9 months or so. In between treatments, you should have a hairfree period. Don't wax or pluck, only shaving is allowed if necessary. The roots need to be there to get killed. It hurts a little bit, but nothing unbearable. Laser hurts too btw, so in that sense, it's similar. But it's a small area and a quick procedure, so you should be fine. If it's really bad for you, you can use a numbing cream.
Answer
Electrolysis takes patience. I don't know how much peach fuzz you have, but you could spend almost a year taking care of your upper lip. However, 4-6 laser sessions spaces at least 5 wks apart will take the same amount of time. Try poking around the electrolysis forum and ask questions over there. There are a few professional electrologists on the board who are super friendly and helpful.
Answer
PLEASE don't consider lying about your age. This could cause your provider to lose their insurance and credentials if your guardian is against you having treatments. I've never asked for ID. I would hate to think that one of my clients would lie to me just to get rid of some hair. If you don't have parental consent, waiting less than a year is minor compared to the damage that could be done to a business.
Answer
oh, no don't worry. my mom is having me check this out because i really want my peach fuzz gone. but thanks everyone for responding!
Answer
I've had my upper lip treated for "peach fuzz". Although I've had a lot of success with other areas of my body, the upper lip has not done so well. After 5 treatments, there is still hair there - mind you, no nearly as much. I think it takes a bit of patience and persistence to get rid of the hair there. I just keep shaving it every once in a while in between
