Question
Today was my first session of LHR. To be totally honest I was EXTREMELY nervous. I did my research... I read all the boards.... the good the bad and the ugly..... I called around to see who was the most knowledgable... Chose a place that has a Physicians Assistant who does the laser who studied in Endocrinology with lots of knowledge of PCOS.
I went in and the ladies were very nice and helpful. Free Consultation. Watched a film, went over paperwork, and signed on the dotted line.
I need a Full face. They mentioned the numbing cream but I wanted to try without it. It really wasnt that bad. But I understand that the kind of Laser that she used on me was the GentleYAG and the setting was only 12. We were done in 20minutes or so. The PA talked the whole time so it kept my mind off all those darn rubberbands smacking my face ever 1/2 inch or so.
When I was done I was very concerned about being all red faced and swollen. But much to my suprise and delight by the time I was out of the office all the red was gone. VERY HAPPY CAMPER at this point. Went out for lunch right after. I did notice that my skin felt smooth.... didnt even feel the usual stubble. It was a new day for me with no stubble.
I started feeling alittle soarness in the evening... some 12 hrs later... noticed alittle reddening happening on my neck only. I have put some cortizone cream on it... that has lessoned it. Just some redness that I noticed with my face a few inches from the mirror checking out any new hairs... which there are none as of now... 13 hrs after session.
I will let you all know how I look in the morning... 2 weeks before common sheding I understand.... I will let you all know
Goodnight all....

Welcome to the LHR club! Glad it went so well for ya. Of course, you won't know about the tangible results for 3 weeks (first shedding) and then several treatments later....
Tell us about yourself (sex, age, skin type, location, etc) and more about your salon (cost, instructions to you, your impressions, etc) to let us share your experience. Thx.

LE, do you know if 12 joules is considered a very low setting on a Yag laser? I thought I heard that Yags are usually set on higher joules than other types of lasers because more power is needed since it's a Yag.
Thanks j. I agree, more information would greatly be appreciated by others I'm sure.

I am a 33yr old white female in SW Florida.
I have been fairly upset today due too the little bumps all over my face. I have read that they are probably just razor bumps (little bumps, not red or white) that are all over. But the problem is that they are raised up next to the hair and so it is IMPOSSIBLE to shave close which gives me a 5'O'clock shadow at 6am and by 5pm when I get off work it is so bad. The hair is not growing as fast as normally but they are definatly noticable. I tried to put makeup over it but my skin is pretty sensitive from the laser that I didnt want to over do it.
Feeling like I have made a mistake getting this done. I have little to no self esteem as it is and now I feel like i have a neon sign over my head saying "look at all my hair on my face"..... aaaaaarrrrrggggg....
Any one have this happen to them... How long before the bumps subside? I cant wait till 2 wks drag by to see some shedding....
Answer
don't worry just yet. this is actually a good reaction. the follicles are affected and the killed hair is being pushed out of the skin. some report that it is a bit harder to shave while that happens, but the hair should start shedding within 2 weeks. put aloe vera and try not to touch to soothe the skin. they should go away within a day or 2 at most.

Well it has really been a very emotional week. My emotions were on a roller coaster. But all is well now. I thank all the people for thier encouraging words of comfort and knowledge. Especially blink888.
Now for the update. The hair on my cheeks has fallen out nicely. I have found myself looking twice at myself in the mirror. It has been along time since I have not had hair or even stubble on my cheeks. My chin and neck is slower to shed. There has been some shedding but not enough for me to say much about. This morning was the first day that I have awaken to hardly the need to shave.
The hair that is there on my neck and chin is under the surface. It is totally noticable to the up close viewer but to a glance it is less noticable so my self esteem in public is growing. (Thank God).
I have been using an exfoliating foam and sponge in the shower and it is helping to pop up some of the hair that is almost to the surface. If they are long enough for my fingernails to grab they slide out easily.
After the first treatment I had tons of the little razor bumps that really scared me. But they are all gone now and my skin is smooth once again. I am still planning a visit to my LHR tech next week to discuss the laser and why she chose the YAG on me when I am pretty darn white with dark coarse hair. I will let you know what she has to say. Maybe it was my mistake and it wasnt a YAG...
Anyway... thank you for reading.
Answer
thanks . keep us posted on your experience.
Answer
Well I have to admit that I am shocked at the excellent results I have received on my full face LHR session. There is a small patch with about 6 hairs that was missed on my neck. But other than that I am pretty much hair free!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been exfoliating about twice a week and that is producing the rest of the hair that is under the skin to fall out. It is so nice to have smooth skin for now. The new growth hasnt started yet. I will update again when things change but for now I am enjoying the "smoothness of a babies butt".

I am so happy for you! I, too, am having facial LHR and I couldn't be happier with the results. It almost makes me want to cry. It is great to hear your positive experience and I hope these kinds of results continue for you.
