Question
Which laser works best on the upper lip? I have a few tiny black hairs and coarse blonde hairs. I tried the IPL for the black and it didnt work. I am considering electroysis. Will lasers increase more hair in that are or just mainly on the side of the face. I do not have alot of black hairs I have the shadow happening with coarse blonde hair and just a few black ones. I also have maybe 3 black hairs underneath my lip and alot soft blonde peach fuzz ones taht dont bother me at all. The black ones I would like to get treated but not if the laser will stimulate more growth there. What should I do. Ive posted 100 times here and I get wonderful replies so thank you for all help so far. Its so great that we are all here to help each other!!

Answer
I would definitely do electrolysis if it's only a few hairs. doing laser there is an overkill. there is no way to target each specific hair since laser pulse treats an area, not each hair like electrolysis. and there is a possibility to stimulate more hair growth. electrolysis will take 15-30 mins at most for those few hairs and will be able to treat the blond hairs that bother you as well, which laser can't do. electrolysis is only $60 an hour and you will need a few treatments, but ultimately, it will not be expensive.

Hi everyone,
I'm very glad I found this forum to answer my questions about laser, but I'm still finding it difficult to make a decision.
My problem is a bit like sexione's. I have very fine dark hair and some light ones on my upperlip, a couple under my lips that I just clip. I haven't disturbed the hair on my upper lip and am concerned that shaving would be the worst thing to do. My skin is light olive and I'm 17 years old.
I've read some people say they were unhappy with treatment on their upper lips. If you are unhappy about yours could you please post details?
Whenever I meet with a doctor at a laser clinic they say how fabulous the treatment is and seem to avoid answering whether or not they've seen anyone's hair get worse. I doubt many people take before and after shots to show their laser techs or doctors, so they really might not know of anyone who has gotton worse.
There are so many different cases out there and ways to laser, I'm getting more confused and saturated with information. I will continue to search for related topics and posts, but I just want to hear some of the bad since laser has been presented to me as too good to be true.
Edit: Maybe some laser techs have experience with hair that just wouldn't go away?

Answer
have you considered electrolysis? how much hair do you have? if it's just a few scattered hairs here and there and some on the upper lip only, you probably should not risk doing laser and just go with electrolysis. especially give that you have olive skin. that means only a Yag laser should be used which is not as good for treating fine hairs. if you haven't touched these hairs at all, electrolysis would be pretty quick since the hair is still weak and it's only about $60/hr. you will need several 30 minute treatments or so, however long it takes to clear the area. laser doesn't affect the blond hair btw and electrolysis would also be able to tackle any light hairs you want gone. in general, laser is better for larger areas than just an upper lip.

Answer
Out of curiosity whats considered a few hairs for electroysis? I want to get elecro on my upper lip and everyone says that is good to tackle those few hairs are we talking 3 or 10 or 20 hairs?

Answer
I would say up to 50 or a bit more even. a good electrologist using thermolysis can tackle about 5-6 hairs per minute on average I would say. of course there are professionals out there who can do it even faster.

I am having my upper lip done. I had 2 sessions. My hair is dark but pretty fine, more than fuzz obviously, but not like leg hair (thank God!). I am fair skinned, dark hair.
So far so good. I am very down to earth about the treatment, I know and I am ready to experience regrowth, I just want to try. So I might just be impressed at the end as I don't expect perfection.
After 2 sessions, I feel good about the results so far (although I know I am not even half way). I can 'let it be' between sessions without worrying because the hair seems to have stopped growing or slowed down a lot. I have a few fine hair here and there growing back but nothing obvious.
Everybody's experience is different I guess. Mine is : I am happy I am getting it done and I have had no side effects.
