Answer
Well, with the research I have done, this is what I understand.
Different lasers work well for different skin types. I guess it is important to choose the right laser and a good technician who can do a good job.

Answer
I would agree, it all depends on skin type. If you ever feel that the tech does not seem sure with their answer, then go someplace else. Find a doctor's office or a spa with a PA or NP for the most experienced providers. Hands down an alexandrite is best for light skin, dark hair. Yag for dark skin. I have an IPL used for photofacials (not good for dark skin, could remove pigment) and if my alex broke down I would not substitute my IPL for it, I would rebook. Having extensive medical training in this area, I am not a fan of IPL hair removal, only because my experience is the laser specific to the skin types are far superior.

Answer
light skin and dark hair -- alexandrite or diode. LightSheer that you are using is a diode.
skin type darker than type IV - Yag laser
IPL claims to work on all skin and hair types. It uses a different method to kill the hair than the above lasers. very important to find a very experienced trained tech to do this option if you want to achieve results. it's very important with any method you choose, but with IPLs in particular, you need someone who is trained in hair removal specifically for results. Aurora is an IPL.
Basically other names of lasers you see are names used by different manufacturers. i.e. various companies make alex, diodes, yags, and IPLs

Answer
IPL uses the same method to destroy hair- phototherolysis. IE light to a target chromophore top creat heat- to damage the cells. The right IPL will work as effectively as a laser providing it is adjusted correctly, just like a laser not using proper setting won't clear hair either.
