Question
I had my first treatment on Saturday...chin and neck. He used a Lightsheer as I am pretty fair with medium brown hair. My laser areas are dark hair and very course.
The tech started at 25J and bumped it up to 30J. It hurt!!! I was holding my breath and tensing, trying to get through the pain and finally asked him to take a break for me to catch my breath! It was like waiting for a labor contraction to end. Is this normal?? Do you think I should have them turn it down?
Now it's 4 days afterwards and the areas are very bumpy and some are filled with fluid. However, they told me that if the area is bumpy like a mosquito bite...it's good. I still have the 5 o'clock shawdow thing going on, but I hope that will all disappear after more treatments. I still have some discomfort and itching.
By the way, I paid about $680 for 5 treatments and because I have PCOS, I can go back for "palm-sized area" treatment for $25.
Thanks for any input.

Answer
if you don't get bumps and blisters, you're fine. the higher the setting you can take, the more of a chance that the hair will be killed. you need to wait now and see if shedding occurs, this usually happens within 2-3 weeks. if it doesn't something is wrong, but it seems in your situation that it should be fine. sounds like it went fine and everything is happening as it should. the treatment is supposed to hurt, if you can't feel it, you're most likely being undertreated, which is a waste of money. since you have PCOS, make sure that you are on medication that is controlling the issue, since if you're not, only the hair that's currenly there will be killed, but your body will continue to produce more hair due to the condition, meaning it will always seem like it's not working.

i am very confused about all this hair removal. i have light skin dark hair
i had 4 treatments on my arms chest and stomach. with the light sheer at a doctors office. the doc told me laser do not kill the hair at all it just makes the hair come back finer . anyway after 4 light sheer treatments i had really bad results most all the hair came back 100%. and just as thick.now i had 1 treatment over 3 months ago with the Alexandrite and for 3 months no hair grew back. now the last 2 weeks or so all the hair is back but much finer and lighter. i dont belive lasers kill hair roots they just make the hair come back finer. and now what is really confusing me is the new place i am going to says in about 2 years all the finer hair with come back thick and dark again.
Answer
you need to have a full set of 5-6 treatments at least to skill hair in all its growing stages, otherwise, it will seem like you are not getting the results you want. if the hair doesn't shed, that means the treatment didn't work and the settings are too low. if it does shed, you need to come back and get treatments 8-10 weeks apart, 5-6 times on the same area for permanent results. it may take more treatments on men as well and be aware that you will probably be producing more hair in general with age.
