Dr. recommended acetylcholine chloride for Botox eye droop!

Question
I called my doctor's office yesterday to tell them that 6 days after injection (my first and LAST time) my right eye was drooping so much that half my pupil is covered. I also related the awful flu-like symptoms that I am experiencing. They denied the flu symptoms could be the botox, but for the eye droop they told me to go to a health food store (how weird is that) and get some acetylcholine chloride to put in my eye. They said it would hasten the dissipation of botox from my eye. I don't really trust them that much anymore. Has anyone heard of this? Does it work, is it safe?

Answer
Doctors, denial and Botx. These three sure run together. If you go to the Allergan web-site (www.botox.com) and print a copy of the package insert for Botox, you will see that one of the side effects the company admits to is flu-like symptoms. You might want to take a copy to your doctor and ask him why he is using a drug he is unfamiliar with.

I looked this up on the internet and all it does is dilate your pupils which will make you look worse. The site said "Available via prescription, acetylcholine chloride is used to keep eye pupils dilated during eye surgery and as a bathing solution for the eyes.
As far as being prescribed for holistic reasons: Holistic health practitioners prescribe acetylcholine chloride as a remedy for chest congestion, indigestion, drowsiness, headaches, general fatigue, and forgetfulness.
I too, am suffering from eyelid droop (see my SOS message and the thread on Ptosis). I was given eyedrops Alphalgan but it really didn't do anything much and these drops are for Glaucoma so I quit using it because I didn't want to do more damage. I am waiting this out and after 5 weeks now, I am starting to see a small improvement.

Just an update here. I did purchase the stuff, and I was wrong about putting in the eye. It's actually used orally: 10 drops under the tongue, 3 times a day. I went over the list of "maladies" that are affected by this substance with the owner of the health food store, and there are dozens, but among them are the ones listed by the previous poster. It didn't say anything about bathing the eye for dilation. At any rate, I fail to see how this is going to help me, but it can't hurt, I guess. The info she had did not make it sound like a detoxifier, so I probably just wasted $14.98. Oh yeah, plus tax.
