Answer
you need an alexandrite or diode laser to be used. you can find locations of clinics by researching online, looking in your yellow pages, and by checking out manufacturers' websites for provider searches. Candela is a company that makes GentleLASE alexandrite lasers for example, and they have a provider search on their website.
Check out the hairtell forum for a list of questions to take with you to your appt, so you can determine if the person who will be doing the treatment is knowledgeable. That's the biggest determinant in the kind of results you will get. Also, check out several places to compare prices and techs, since these can vary widely.
Finally, make sure to read through these forums and do your research so you are more equipped to judge whether the clinic you choose is reputable.
Answer
Where can I find the hairtell forum? I emailed the center to see what type of laser they use. After reading up on here for the past day, i have learned a lot. I have a few areas i want gone, each with about 20 or so hairs, but i have tweezed them, a lot. my stomach, chest, nipples, and chin. I want to do them ALL but i know it will be a lot. Do places do package deals for things like this? i guess ill have to call and go in. I have seen an add in our paper a lot, and now i foudn it with 30% off. That helps a lot!!!
Answer
yes, most places offer packages. you just need to go in and compare rates. stop tweezing for at least 1.5 months before starting treatments.
just google that website and you will find it. there is a forum and a sister site with lots of helpful information called hair-facts
Answer
stop for 1. 5 months! eek! My boyfriend doesnt know i do it, we have been together for 4 1/2 years! But if it helps my chances of making it work.. i dont wax. but they grow back quickly... thats going to be the hardest thing- letting it grow out!
Answer
btw, 20 hairs in each of those areas is nothing. people get their entire chests, stomachs, legs etc lasered. electrolysis is also an option for areas with very little hair, especially on a woman's face. Laser can be an overkill for just a few hairs since it targets "spots" of hairs. you don't want to stimulate the finer hairs to grow.
Answer
you can shave the hairs. the roots need to be there in order for laser to target them. hair grows in 3 stages, so at any one point only about 30% or so is in the growing phase, the phase where the hair can be killed. if you tweeze or wax, you will be wasting your money since most of the hair roots to be killed won't be there. Also, you will need to shave the hair prior to laser treatment.
bleaching is another option. or electrolysis since you have so little to remove.
Answer
Yes but isnt electrolysis a long process? I guess i have more then 50 on each spot.. they just come in randomly. Im afraid to shave them becasue i dont want irritation.
- you have been giving me a lot of useful info, thank you so much!
Answer
well, technically, any hair removal process takes a long time just because you need to hit the hair in the growing phase. With laser you need 5-6 treatments spaced 8-10 weeks apart. Electrolysis takes at least 9 months or so to go through all the phases. I would consider it for the face just because laser can sometimes stimulate hairs on the face to become darker if the laser tech doesn't know what they are doing and is undertreating you AND hitting hairs that are light and not noticeable anyways.
But 50 or more is fine for laser, especially if they are dark and coarse. laser targets the dark pigment, so the darker and coarser, the better.
Answer
yes they are very dark and very thick.
I went on that hairtell site and i cant find a list of things to ask when i go... So i might have problems on my face... they say that only board certifited physicians do the work. It is a private owned center and after i go ill see how i feel about it. If i can only afford one area, which one should i do? Did you just go in and get it all done? And how do you know so much about all of its! you are a pro!
Answer
if you read all 3 forums for a while, you'll get pretty knowledgeable about this. it's not that expensive for such small areas you are looking to get done. you can also pay per treatment, not per package. choose an area that bothers you most i guess. that's how i chose.
check out hair-facts.com. that's where the information is. don't put the hyphen in, i just did that because this website will otherwise not post this name.
