Question
I'm 1 week post op from endo brow lift and both upper and lower eyelids and still can't see well. I have been having double vision as well as blurred vision and worried that this is not normal. PS says everything is normal. One eye seems to be healing better than the other, still pretty swollen. The whole top of my head is numb as well as my forhead. Any info would be appreciated.
Answer
I had upper blepharoplasty two weeks ago today. When I went for a consultation I planned on having a brow lift, which turned out to be not what I needed. From the research I've done on the procedure, numbness on the top of your head may last for quite sometime, so that's normal.
As for the vision problems, that is described as a common complication of blepharoplasty (and it's temporary), but I must have been lucky, as I could see perfectly within hours.
Answer
I had upper blepharoplasty and a brow lift on December 14. My /directory/index.php" target=_blank>/directory/index.php" target=_blank>/directory/index.php" target=_blank>doctor (and his assistant who had it done too) told me that my vision would be blurred for a week or two and it is normal. They said a big cause of this was the eye ointment getting in your eyes. I was glad I knew that because it would have /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scared me too if I didn't know about the ointment issue. I can see fine now, even though my vision was blurred for 1 to 2 weeks.
Also, that numbness is going to last awhile. It gets better every week or so now in my experience. I can now feel my brow area, and some feeling is coming back to my forehead. As far as the top of my head, it's as numb as can be. I was freaked out about the numbness as well, but my surgeon told me in the follow up that the numbness is caused by the nerve damage during surgery. He explained that the nerves grow back a certain number of milimeters each month, and that's why it takes a few months for the numbness to go away. I hope this makes you feel better. I can already feel some it going away 3 1/2 weeks post-op. It's just slow to subside.
Good luck in your recovery!
Answer
My eyes were blurry at times for a good month. (My left eye was worst). But eventually it improved. But it did take a month, so these things can take some time. Relax and don't worry. It all takes more time than we wish.

Thanks for your reply. I'm now 17 days post op and still have a little blurred vision. I am still swollen and can't believe how red and obvious the incision lines are. I guess it all takes time to heal. When do the incision lines fade away?? I'm going to have to get used to the more rounded eye look. I feel like I have too much white showing on my lower eye, my ps says they will move up when everything softens but still concerned. My eyes still won't shut. Does anyone have that problem? I feel like I can't leave the house without dark sunglasses and wondering when I can actually go in public without people noticing.

Check with your PS on this, but taping the eyes shut at night will resolve it. I had a left eye that would not stay closed & I couldn't shut it entirely. It should have resolved in a week or so but I found it painful in the morning to /mmh/product/chemicalpeel/index.vm?procid=4" target=_blank>peel tape off of my eyelid and cheek. I should have just bit the bullet & did it continuously in the early healing stage. By month 2, I had severe dry eye and THEN did what I was told to do. It took 2 more months of taping the eye shut & now it closes properly & stays close while asleep. I lay a narrow strip of gauze against my eye so I don't pull on lashes when removing the tape, and sleep that way. Weird & not the most comfortable (and /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scary when you let your mind go nuts about it), but don't. It WILL heal and work. But before you do anything, call & talk to your PS to see if this is safe for you to do. It took me much longer than necessary to get my eye functional because I "froze" & waited for it to heal on it's own. And some people do heal on their own, just by continuous automatic blinking & use. So please check with you doc before doing the above.
Answer
I'm 4 weeks post op (upper blepharoplasty) and the incision in one eye is clearly visible without /mmh/product/makeup/index.vm?procid=54" target=_blank>makeup, while the other eye is healed almost completely. Because the eyelid (and face in general) is very well vascular, any leasions (incisions) suppose to heal very well and rather quickly. I guess that's not true accross the board.
For the problem with eyes not closing immediately post op ... my surgeon had taped my lower eyelids for the first week to help with this problem and I experienced no issues.

Thanks for all of your replies. It is so helpful and reassuring to chat with you ladies knowing we're going through the same things. Did anyone have too much white showing on the bottom of the eye?? My ps says my lower lid should move up when the swelling goes down. I'm now 3 weeks po and still swollen.
Answer
I am almost 5 weeks post op and I still have swelling on my lids. It is usually very pronounced in the morning when I wake up, and then it subsides within 1 to 2 hours to normal. My plastic surgeon said it was completely normal and would last awhile.
Everytime I get freaked out about the appearance of swelling, my husband tells me it isn't that visible in the morning. To large extent, I agree with him. It's a type of swelling that can be felt (i.e. the pressure) and I can feel the shape of it with my fingers, but the appearance isn't very visible. I've been at work for about 2 1/2 weeks now and no one notices.
As for the whites of the eyes issue, I think a lot of that is just the surgery "settling" and the swelling. When I first did this, I thought my eyes looked too round and I hated the whites showing. It's settling a lot now where I can barely tell a difference. I'm really happy now with the result.
Give it time, It gets better everyday...

People keep saying their dr. taped their eyes shut...how could that be if you need them taped at night to sleep? Are you all going all day and night taped?? How do you see?
Answer
I had upper blethplasty and never taped my lids at all. To be fair, they were pretty swollen the first two days (probably from my rhinoplasty that I had at the same time - I don't know).
I remember having difficulty closing my eyes fully to sleep at night for 1-2 weeks after surgery. I just made sure I was in a completely dark room and it was fine. No problems now at all (about 2 months post-op).
Hope this helps!
Answer
No what i meant was why is the dr. doing vs. yourself..is the dr. coming to your home and sitting by your bed to tape your eyes? Maybe they only had one eye taped and the dr. did it for them in the office leaving them one eye to see i guess...
