3 week photos up

Question
Today is my 3 week anniversary. I just put up some new photos. I can't see much difference since 2 weeks, to tell you the truth, except that most of the bruising is gone. Sure wish my ear looked better, but at least it's not infected.Age: 59

Answer
Oh wd, that ear looks sore, are you using anything on it Under your chin still looks like swelling to me so you should still be confident it will go, still early days girl. I know it feels like forever. You look way better than i did at three weeks.
Shirley

Answer
Thanks, Shirley. I'm keeping antibiotic ointment on the ear. Trying to keep it out of my hair is a trick. Oddly enough it doesn't hurt. My other ear, which looks fine, aches something awful. Go figure.Age: 59

Answer
WD your ear does look sore just keep watching it. Did you have the tragal incision which is behind that little piece of skin near the inside of your ear? or is it straight down near the ear?

Answer
Dear WD...We are on exactly the same schedule...in more ways than one!
I also had my FL on 6-29, and same as you...I can't tell much difference between week 2 and week 3. Bruising is gone, thank goodness, but my mouth is odd. Mostly it is the swelling that is getting to me...I look like a space alien. My upper cheeks are rock hard. My PS says it just takes time, and this recent heat wave has not helped...but still I am discouraged.
I've had a few "blue" days wondering how long it will take before I look human again. (I don't dare get weepy in front of my husband who went along with the FL only reluctantly.)
Alas, silly me, at 4 weeks I thought I'd be able to socialize...so I was planning on going to a party next Saturday, but I can't imagine that I will be presentable next weekend. Sigh.
Oh well...at least people at work are being OK about it...Some are curious, some are supportive, some are horrified...but everyone is really nice to me in person, so i can't really ask for more.
In the meantime I am existing on protein shakes, scrambled egg whites, fruit, fresh greens and tons of fluids...not a speck of salt.
Anyway, thanks for posting (and listening)...it is good to not be alone in this journey!
Good luck...to all of us!

Answer
Elizabeth, I'm sorry you're having some down days. I guess that is to be expected. Fortunately I'm retired, so I don't have to see anybody if I don't want to. I've been hybernating except for an emergency run to the vet and a couple of trips to the grocery store and library. As odd as I think I look, not one person has even looked twice. And I had a long conversation face to face with the vet about my sick cat. If he was thinking "she looks weird" he didn't give any indication. I bet you're not nearly as space alien as you think. Do you have any pictures up?
Good luck and keep your chin up, literally.
Refreshme, I didn't know what it was called, but the incision was the one that goes behind the little flap, not straight down in front. I think it's healing now, but it's going to leave a rather wide and ugly scar. I guess the ps can address that next week when I see her. What's bothering me more is the pain in my other ear. I do believe it's the incision behind my ear that is hurting. Starts up early afternoon and kind of comes in waves until bedtime when I zonk out on Tylenol PM. Regular Tylenol isn't helping the pain much. But it looks perfectly fine, so I don't know if it's just a normal part of healing or what. Maybe I'll put all that in a new topic and see if anyone else has had this experience.Age: 59

Yes that's the same incision I have, my left side scar is large also and red but I think that's because that ear was 3 times the size after surgery (maybe stretched those stitches)
I had a few unusual pains also, they went away after awhile. If it bothered me I would take some pain meds.Sharon

So my case is not unusual then. That's the beauty of this board. Just when you think you're the only one with some weird problem you find out 2 or 3 other people on here have had it. And those of us on this board are a very small percentage of all the folks everywhere who have had ps. So just think of the huge number of people who've experienced the same things we have but haven't told us. Does that make sense?
Thanks, Chez. Maybe all my years of staying out of the sun have paid off. The surgical nurse and the recovery nurses all told me my skin was a topic of conversation during surgery. They were saying something like...."she doesn't need a /mmh/product/facelift/index.vm?procid=7" target=_blank>face lift, her skin is so nice." My thought is it doesn't matter how nice it is if your face is sagging down onto your neck.Age: 59
