2nd Follow-up Dr. Visit & Interesting Ear Info

Question
Good Day all! Just got back from my second post-op visit, and the Dr. removed all sutures around the lower head, dissolving-lower-lid stitches (that never dissolved!, which is very unusual) and some ear stitches.
So, today, Day 13, I am looking a little more human. I still have yellow coloring on my right cheek, some bruising around the eyes, and bruising under the chin and on the neck. But it's all lightening up each day. My eyes have some redness, crustiness and a coupla 'bubbles' that need to be massaged where the stiches were, but that, too, should improve with time and patience!
I asked the Dr. why I keep getting some blood and 'gunk' coming out of my lower ears (under the lobes) when they made accidental contact with something (putting on tee, for example). He said that he always leaves a little opening at the base of the earlobe for any necessary draining. He said it helps the healing and the eventual natural look of the ear. That was a relief....I couldn't imagine WHAT the heck was occasionally oozing out of my lobe area....... Just wanted to share that in case any of you are having or will have that issue.
Continued happy healing to all of you on the road to "lookin' good' with me! (Howya doing Gebbie?? I mean, Wilson!)

Answer
Hi Alice! Glad to know the healing is going well! Those little stitches can be resistant to dissolving--the ps found three in me today that were supposed to have taken care of themselves.
About the yellowing on the neck, if you want to speed the process up, I was told to expose the skin gently to sunlight. I *guess* putting on /mmh/product/beauty/sunscreen/index.vm?procid=13&catid=304" target=_blank>sunscreen would be the safest way to go. And that's very interesting about the ears--it makes sense that the stuff should come out, not stay in.
Hope your recovery is smooth this week.
*hugs,
Marian

Answer
Hiya Alice
Sounds like you are healing really well - once you are at the stage of having yellow it seems to go pretty quickly.
That's interesting about the hole near the ear lobes - it does make sense.

Hi Twin A,
Glad you sound like you are doing better today! I am also looking less Wilson, but the eyes are pretty eirie looking! I was throwing up until noon today, though, because of pain meds; no fun there.
Can you close yours today? I still cannot.
Please ask TwinL to tell me once again, how her ataple removal and screw removal went. Mine is tomorrow and I don't have the disolvable screws.
Thanks!
Gebbie

Hi,
Wanted to make a comment about ears too, after I read this post. My surgeon puts a little "tuck" stitch just outside the tragus, face side not inside ear canal. She said this gives a more natural look. Did anyone else get this? I did not get the opening at the base of the earlobe, but it makes complete sense. Boy, these surgeons have lots of individual tricks, don't they?
I see my Surgeon tomorrow. I have one puffy area just at the outer canthus (corner of the eye) I feel an internal stitch there. Other than that I have no complaints or problems. I have no bruising left, but still swollen at the cheeks. I wore my hair in a pony tail today. I hate wearing my hair down all the time! The hell with the new /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scars! My girlfriend said you couldn't see them anyway. I must admit each day the swelling goes down and new signs of aging appear!! I am pleased with the look I have but hate to see lost ground so to speak.
I post a reply then it turns into a tale about me, Sorry!! Best wishes to you guys, and I love your photos! Great for 60 You got lucky with your genetics and even luckier with your surgeon. He appears to have done a fab. job. It will be fun to see before and afters long after you both heal. So interesting twin /mmh/product/facelift/index.vm?procid=7" target=_blank>face lifts!!

Yay for you, Alice!! I am so interested now in the recovery stories than I am the actual surgery since my doctor put my mind at ease yesterday. I am now wondering if I will have tiny little drainage holes left under my ears or somewhere else. But you know, I guess it's gotta go somewhere or our heads and faces might explode from fluid collection.
I just can't wait to go back to the doctor for my follow-up three days later with my Always maxi-pads wrapped around my chin and jaw! Anyone have an extra decorative lamp shade hanging around that I can borrow that day? I think I'd rather face the public in that than the sanitary napkins I was instructed to buy the ones without "wings"....darn! I thought those were cuter!~Prissy~

Hey Prissy...what is this.....a BYOB (Bring-Your-Own-Bandage) party?? You have to provide your own chin/jaw wraps?!?

Answer
LOL....I think it is just in case I would need to have the head wrap for any longer than the two they are going to provide me with from the surgery and the one they will change me into when I leave the surgery center. I may not even need them for later. My friend warned me about this....and she has a houseful of sons!! LOL....too cute. Ohhhhh Maaaaa-ah! ~Prissy~
