Question
I am 12 days post f/l and my suture line on my chin is really long. Does anyone use anything to put on this so that I could minimize any scarring. I did 10 days of antibiotic ointment, but surgeon says to stop now. It looks meaty and I am afraid of scarring.
And, how long did your neck and chin take for the swelling to go down. I can't decide if I look like a linebacker or a toad. The top of my head looks normal again, but the lower half, oy!!!!
Please advice...thanx.
Answer
Hi Cindybear ~
My maxillofacial guy was adamant that I use Scar Less (only available on-line or from an 800 number). It's pricey, but if you only want to take care of the chin scar, it would be a lot less. Reviews at the website are great.
I had to get 4 oz for my scars and have just started. The 4 oz is $105.95, but if it's just your chin, you probably need only 1 oz and it would be a lot less. It's one of those "less is more" products that you apply very sparingly for 4 months (!). I think the web site is scarless.com or scarless.net, but you can google it, too.
This MMH site also carries a product for minimizing scars. Then there's a product called Mederma (not sure of the spelling) that you should be able to pick up anywhere, I think.
Time will tell, but I'm very optimistic. Good luck to you!

Cindybear, It took my neck about 4 weeks to ease up and 6 weeks to feel almost normal. I felt like I was hung with a new rope, rope burn oh the agony!!
I've been massaging Mederma on the /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scars during the day and massaging the juice from an aloe vera plant at night and my scars are looking good!! My PS said to do nothing but years ago when I had the upper/lower /mmh/product/eyelidsurgery/index.vm?procid=6" target=_blank>eyes done that /directory/index.php" target=_blank>doctor said to massage all the time and you can't even see my scars and there wasn't anything for scars on the market then.Sharon

Hi Cindy,
I had chin lipo last Oct, and my /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scar also looked meaty. It was raised and red for the longes time. But it now is almost invisible and ishealing well, so give it some time and it will disappear.

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions. The ps says put nothing on the healing site and then again so many people have had such great results adding the Scarless or /mmh/product/beauty/mederma/index.vm?procid=13&catid=214" target=_blank>Mederma. The site is about 2 inches long. Just trying to do all I can to make the outcome as good as possible. Thanks again!!!!

Don't you all just LOVE these Brits - Shirley & Chez??!! What fun AND funny gals!
The scar on my chin is actually my COVER (for those still trying to come up with a story as to why they've been off work, etc.), because I can honestly say I had 'something' removed from my chin (fat and muscle, but I don't explain )
That way, they figure whatever it was that was giving me the double-chin look must have been HUGE because my overall look (that would be jowls and neck - which were also handled, but no one needs THAT explanation!!)is, uh, different!
So while I'm using Scar Less, I don't mind the scar showing for awhile.

Here is my Latest excuse for my chin. I fell on my handle bars while mountain biking If you saw my body, you would know why people would be instantly on the floor laughing.
Answer
I know what you mean about the under-chin scar. My ps told me I'd have a very small one under there from the /mmh/product/liposuction/index.vm?procid=9" target=_blank>lipo and lift, but it turned out to be about 2 inches across - nearly the whole width of the underside of my chin! It's raised and ropey and a darn good thing it's fairly well hidden, or I'd be really upset. The ps gave me a sample of ScarFade, so I'm putting it on day and night.06-29-06 - facelift and necklift

I'm not thrilled with my chin scar either. It's maybe 1 1/2" long and bumpy on one end. I've been using /mmh/product/beauty/mederma/index.vm?procid=13&catid=214" target=_blank>Mederma on it, but yesterday I got some silicone sheets that are supposed to work well. Anybody tried these? They're like bandaids except the sticky side has silicone on it. You leave it on for a minimum of 12 hours a day for 8 weeks. One sheet will last 3 or 4 days and you take them off to shower and put them back on again. I'm going to try them and see what happens.Age: 59

I just saw the ps for my 3 week post op visit. He gave me ScarCare by Scarguard to use 2 times a day for 2 months. It has 3 ingredients. /mmh/product/vitamins_supplements/index.vm?procid=44" target=_blank>Vitamin E, Silicone and Hydrocortizone. Kinda pricey= $65.00 for 1 ounce. I think you could just massage in those 3 ingredients on your own for a lot less money. He said to massage gently everyday to scar area and it will help.
W/D ~ He said my eyebrow (and your wonky smile) are on the same pathway of nerve and that it should resolve in 3 more weeks. I said what is the worse case, and he said 6 months. ARGH!!!
Answer
Cindy, let's hope and pray that these afflictions don't hang on for 6 months! So I guess now we're in a race to see whether your eyebrow or my smile rights itself first. I wonder if it's a gradual improvement, or if one morning we'll just wake up to find ourselves normal again.Age: 59
