Question
i posted last week as having my first mamo since br and finding 2 spots on the mamo and ultra sound. well yesterday morning my ps called me at work, she said that with my family history and what she saw on the mamo she would like for me to see a surgeon. she made me an appointment for this morning. yikes no sleep last nite.
well this surgeon had it together she had 2 other surgeons in her practice, and dr assistant consult with me. all did breast exam and then reading the tech report right there with me told me the same thing. one spot is an oil csyt caused from cauterizing during surgery. the other is fatty breast tissue and will be watched monthly it is soft and moveable. mamo again 6 months and they feel im ok.
whew! im moving on now and never regret my newbies. oh they also said i have the breast of a teenager and im 57 years old.

ms pea,
Tell us more about your mammogram. Was it painful? I am four weeks PO and can't imagine squishing them into that contraption for a looong time but I will be due six months PO and hope I can do it.
My mother died of breast cancer at 54 and I have the fibrous breasts with calcifications and lumps and all that stuff. I anticipate starting over with mammograms because my baseline will start over. My last mammogram I had new calcifications and they had to be retaken. Evidently calcifications for cancer tumors are slightly different than calcificions for fibrous lumps so they needed a retake.
I used to be terrified of breast cancer but I feel better now that they have better treatments. I really wanted to be smaller than I am PO because I wanted to be able to palpate lumps easier. I am still a D and am not sure how easy it will be for me to do self examinations. When I was a DDDD, it was impossible. Too much deep tissue and too many lumps.
Glad to hear you are good to go and I would fully expect to have a second look at first mammograms following BR. LOts of scar tissue and changes

jeaneene, the intial mamo wasnt as bad as when i was big busted, but when they had to do it over and over is when i got sore. i know they are doing it for me so i just have to endure it. i came home and took advil and didnt have the soreness long. they said that its tricky after reduction because they have nothing to compare it to.
yesterday the surgeons kept saying i will have to learn my breast all over again and because im smaller i can feel a lump better than i could before.
get your mamo when needed and do self exam every month.
its really only minutes of discomfort that can save our lives.
ill be thinking of you, dont get stressed over it, its a tool that can save our lives.

Glad you are ok. I had my BR last August and am scheduled for a mamo and sono (my obgyn thought it was good to back the mamo up with the sono due to the BR) in July. I just had a revision for dog ears also so I'm thinking there is alot of scar tissue. Every year I go they take extra slides each time as it is. I'm wondering if anyone's surgeons recomment the sono as well as mamo after BR? Stay well.. Karen
