Hi...just wondering how much exercise others are doing..or have done...at this point..one month post-op. I have been walking an hour every day..and I feel great. I would love to get back to Jazzercise...but afraid to try. I have another dr's appt. on 9/11...the last time I was there was 10 days ago and he said to do what my body tells me. I really don't know what that means!!!! What are others doing??
Thanks!

No advice here .. but I am jealous of your walking. I'm not quite 3 weeks post-op and walking is the last thing I want to do. I have quite a bit of pain when I walk just short distances .. my new boobies are getting their feeling back and man, does it hurt when they move. Riding in a car is painful too.
A friend of mine wanted me to come out to her farm tonight and walk around and I had to back out. The thought of riding 20 miles out of town and then walking on a bunch of uneven terrain sounds like torture!
I look forward to getting back to my walks soon! I guess we all heal differently and I figure if my body tells me to slow down .. then I'll slow down.

I've been walking 3 miles a day. I haven't started weights yet, but probably will do that next week. I even ran (for about 30 seconds-lol) yesterday, and it felt WONDERFUL. It was so nice not to have my boobs cause major earthquakes with each stride!!

I think your Dr is right. Wear a good supportive bra and as long as what you are doing is not causing any discomfort then it's probably okay.[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

I've been walking 3 to 4 miles a day and am coming up 1 month postop.
Doesn't hurt at all when I walk but bumpy car rides are a bugger still.
I too was wondering when to start doing some other exercises, like
those workout tapes for the abs etc? Maybe just start with a little and see how I feel. I took my first bubble bath in 23 days and oh man it was
wonderful. I was told only to do bird baths up until this week.

I started walking after day 2 very slowly to prevent blood clots. I couldn't walk far but I walked around my apartment complex. By week 3 I was walking a mile just about or more. I started speed walking 4-5 miles at one month PO and my PS told me I could do any lower body at that point but no upper body. I lifted weights last week for 15 minutes (weight addict <<) and was ok, just 10-15 pounds though. The excersise bike I started using at 1 month PO. I got on the Eliptical for the 1st time last week and the boobs were a bit sore so I am sticking to the bike and speed walking. I have been doing 60 sit ups and crunches with no problems as well.
Speed walking is so easy, it used to take me 20 minutes to walk one mile, now it takes me 12-15. Breathing is 100% easier. AND walking up stairs, I always thought I had crappy stamina but I can run up them and not be out of breath. Talk about a weight being lifted off the chest
You know your limits when you are working out is what I have come to realize. If it hurts, don't do it.View My Photo Album Here

I'm 2 weeks post op today, and my PS told me I could walk as much as I want, but not to get my heart rate too high. I've been walking for about an hour a day the past couple of days. I can't wait to get back to real working out though!!8-11-06

My ps said that there wasn't anything I could hurt internally, but to start out slowly. Your body will tell you if you've overdone it - you 'll be drop-dead-tired. If your Jazzercise center has Jazzercise Lite, try that. It's low impact aerobics and no strength training. If not, just do low impact and use a light weight, like a 1 or 2 lb, instead of your normal weight for a few classes, just like when you were a new student. I used the surgical bra I was sent home with plus sanitary napkins for padding because I had some oozing from a hole. I waited until the oozing stopped to shop for a sports bra and by that time, I had no more swelling. You may find that you need to limit the number of times per week you can attend class and/or the amount of time you can spend at class. My guess is that you'll be back to full impact and your normal weights within two weeks or so. I had been using 9 lb weights prior to the surgery, which was February 17 of this year, and found that I like 7 lbs better, so I've stayed with them. Of course, in may case age my have something to do with going to the lower weight - I'll be 56 in October. Good luck and check in after the first couple of classes to let us know how you're doing. Thanks for all the advice...I think I will start with a lite class..and see how it goes. I am dying to go back...so I can just take it slow and see how I feel. If it hurts too much I will leave...I'll let you know how it goes!

I started doing yoga the day after I came home (2 days po), but only on the floor and mostly with the legs (which, by the way, are the largest muscle groups in the body and therefore, the weight loss initiators) ; gradually I've added more because I have been practicing for over 20 years and I also teach it as a living.
This weekend the university where I teach had a kickoff both days and its very much like a "teambuilding" that corporations do these days. Anyway, we had to run around a lot, playing a lot of games and I also took a water aerobics class and a pilates class. I'm definitely going to start the water aerobics training as soon as I can. Easy on the joints, as is yoga.
One thing I noticed about running - I had on one of my older bras because I still have some swelling and changing shape in the breasts, but it fits much better, however, there is some space in the top, so I did feel the bouncing and I didn't like it. I used to own some sports bras, but my breasts got too big for them and I gave them away, but I sure did need it this weekend. I slowed down to a jog and my team didn't know what was up, but I didn't care.
No one seems to have noticed my smaller breast size, but I've been losing some weight anyway, so I guess they think that's it, if they even think about it at all. I, of course, think about it a LOT. Everyday, I check in with my new boobies, and I am sooooooooo happy!

for me, my doctor said to wait until 6 weeks post op (but thats is in part b/c one of my /mmh/product/scar_reduction/index.vm?procid=42" target=_blank>scars opened up), but I am almost eight now and doing excerise and weights. it seems like a long time to not be exercising. I agree with your doctor to listen to your body. I dont have any pain in my arms anymore and the rest of my body feels great so I am defiently able to exercise.

I am 3 mths OTR and I started back at the gym about 3 weeks ago and I cant tell you how great it feels to work out with smaller boobs! It is such a huge difference. I dont have to worry about what to wear at the gym, I dont feel tired as quickly and I can RUN!!! Something I havent been able to do since I was 8 becuase of my huge huge boobs. I find that I am a little bit swollen after I do my weight training but, other than that, no problems at all.

I went to Jazzercise last night...it was great! It's sooooo much easier to do with a smaller chest..it's incredible how much lighter I feel. I kept all my movements pretty low impact...didn't do any weights. I felt fantastic when it was over. Today I feel good...no swelling...not uncomfortable. I will go again tomorrow night and then over the weekend...taking it slow.
This surgery was the absolute best thing I have ever done for myself....

I am debating about what exercise program to go with - Curves or Jazzercize. I used to do step-aerobics years ago and loved it. I have had 2 back surgeries, so I need to really strengthen my stomach muscles and just burn alot of calories! Yes, I had tummy shock too after my BR. I guess 2 kids in 2 years will do that to a girl's stomach.
Please let me know if any of you have a preference one way or another. I like that Curves has a 30 minute workout with my busy schedule (kids, school, etc), but is it enough?
Thanks,
Beth

I've heard a lot of good results from Curves. Quick results. I loved Jazzercise when I was going. Now I belong to Gold's Gym. I chose them over Curves (they are next door to each other) because they had a pool. Between Curves and Jazzercize, I would probably go with Curves...because of the time factor and the good results I've heard from friends. Just my opinion though.
