For those of us that have to stop smoking..

Question
Even though the insurance hasn't approved it yet....I have decided to go ahead and quit smoking on Monday the 28th, the Dr said 4 weeks before, but I feel if I go ahead NOW maybe the "pre surgery stress without a smoke" wont be as bad. Hubby has graciously offered to quit with me, he's so sweet....
This is NOT going to be easy I've been a two pack a day smoker for 19 years, but when faced with the possibility of not having the surgery I've wanted for just as long as I've smoked....it will give me motivation. Plus we are going to put back the outrageous amount of money we spend each week for an anniversary trip October of 2007 to Scotland. By my figures we should have about 4300 saved from cigarette money alone.
anyway...Im babbeling, I need to get to the point of this thread
A friend sent me this this morning to give me *inspiration* and I thought I would share it.
Maybe this will help you it did me . I taped it to ever surface I was possibly gonna be around when I might want a cig.
It's never too late

Good luck! Are you going "cold turkery" or cutting down gradually? I have a good friend who decided to quit and went from 1 1/2 packs to just 2 ciggies a day in about a week. We are so proud of him.
I'm glad your hubby is quitting with you. What a great support system you will be for each other! And to have a trip to look forward to will help with the incentive, besides the new boobies!!
Hang in there...prayers and hugs

Good for you and thanks for sharing that. I sent it to my mother-in-law who is a smoker.
I've never been a smoker and I've never been addicted to anything, but I can sympathize with the struggle of trying to overcome something like that. I'm sure it's not easy and won't be easy for the rest of your life, but you know what is good for you and it seems like you're a strong woman and can get through it. Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going for you!25, 5'2", nice boobs!

Answer
Thats what I'm afraid of....gaining weight.
I have cut down..way down, MAYBE a 1/2 pack a day, and I work out, which is counter-productive. I figure I probably will throw them away very soon, as I am getting sick of their control over my life. It is a TERRIBLE addiction!! I hate it! Once I can resume my entire gym schedule, I think that will be IT!!

Along with all the positive effects you have after you quit, your healing process will be much better if you do not smoke. When you smoke, your blood vessels constrict so your blood flow is much less than the nonsmoker. If your blood vessels are constricted in your breasts, the breast tissue won't get all that nice oxygen it needs for proper healing. Therefore, you are more prone to infections afterwards, along with other complications from major surgery, and your scars will not heal as nicely because the tissues aren't getting all that nice rich blood it needs.
I know it will be very HARD, but you can do it!

I quit smoking 6 years ago after smoking for nearly 15 years. I was 29 at the time. Of all the accomplishments in my life:graduating with a perfect 4.0 from University, finishing a marithon and dozens of triathlons among other things - I consider quitting smoking to be my proudest moment in life. It was hard but so worth it and today I can't comprehend why I mistreated my body for so long in the first place.
Congratulations on quitting and I can't wait to hear how it is going for you. I don't think a person on the planet has ever regretted quitting this disgusting habit!

and Im in hell....this has to be the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life. I actually had to call in sick to work yesterday
my head aches horribly
my teeth feel like someone is driving nails thru them into my gums
my mouth tastes like all I have done is chew on aluminum foil, which in turn makes eating pretty pointless
I can smell everything SO well its making me sick to my stomach
I cannot stand to hear the sound of human voices
All I want to do is sleep
Im really dizzy and my brain wont concentrate
Every thing I read says if you make it past 72 hours then everything will be fine lol God I hope so because I feel like Im in hell
someone please tell me nobody died from nicotine withdrawal!!

ShaniFaye:
No, no one ever died from quitting. It sounds like a migraine headache you have. You may want to try some migraine meds. I used to get them alot and they are miserable.
Hang in there. If you can make it these 3 days, you can quit for life! Your life!!
Prayers and thoughts to you.....YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Answer
You will do great!
I quit smoking in 1991. I didn't smoke 2 packs a day regularly, I would smoke lots extra when out with my friends, bar hopping. I ususally smoked about 3/4 of a pack a day. I smoked for 10 years. The day my divorce was final, I threw my last partial pack of cigs in the garbage as I walked out of the courthouse! Out with my stress (my ex) and out with my habit. It was a little tough, but I did it. I figured, If I could handle getting out of a horrible abusive marriage, then I can certainly kick the cigarette addiction. It was a very liberating experience.
You are a woman... WE WOMEN ARE STRONG CREATURES AND CAN DO ANYTHING!!
Just take it, like you are doing, one day at a time.
