Question
I had BL Friday 3-30, just 9 hours ago. I feel fine so far, on vicodin. I did end up having drains put in. My questions are:
How much draining is normal?
How many days did they drain?
Did they hurt when removed from the body?
I have my 1st po appt. on Tuesday. So far so good. I am not in hardly any pain. I wonder if it will get worse in the next day or two.
Anyhow, tell me what your draining was like, it will be helpful.
Thanks!!
Answer
I think I only had to empty my drains a couple of times in a 24 hour period. Compared to my ETT drainage this was minimal. My ps removed the drains on day 6 - it was quick and painless. Having drains is a pain but it sure does help with keeping the swelling down.

I just had a drain removed...typically, one week is the amount of time they will leave it in. My PS' indicator was less than 30cc per 24 hour period for 2-3 days in a row. Although its uncomfortable, the drain is really there so that you don't develop a seroma...I got my drain out on day 5.

Hi Butterflyhigh. I am Kaza and had my BL/BR on the 3/28. My drains were only left in over night, while I was in the hospital. They took them out the next morning and had drained hardly anything. They didnt hurt coming out, just a slight tugging sensation. I havent really had pain as such, more a tingling sensation. Day 4 I had some pain at night when I was trying to sleep. Still sore today (day 5), but ony taking paracetamol. My left breast is nice, but my right is bruised and quite swollen. Feeling a little down today, hubby had to go for chemo by himself, would have gone with him, but I cant drive yet and chemo foundation only take the patient. I also think it is those blues you can get after GA. So boo hoo today!! I know it will pass soon though. So gentle hugs to you from Oz

Thanks for your responses. I have my 1st po appt tomorrow, so I am still wrapped up. I cant even see the new boobs yet. How long until you can sleep on your side again? Night time is the worst for me right now. I cant sleep good propped up and I really want to roll onto my side.
Answer
Hi. It is 305am here and I am on the board, because I cant sleep. Tonight is the first night (day 6) I have been able to sleep on my side. Yet I am finding that I seem to wake up when I want to turn over. I have pillows all around, like a boobie nest, to support them. I had a BL not a BA, but the breasts still need that support. Good luck with your ps tomorrow and the unveiling. Kaza in Oz
