**UPDATE page 1** pregnant 2 weeks post op after TT and BA

Question
As far as I know. Someone dropped the ball with that, obviously. She was asked if she could be pregnant to which she replied, there is no way. She explained the IVF, the birth defect in her tubes, her inability to get pregnant without medical intervention. I don't think she was wrong not to insist on a http://www.makemeheal.com/pictures/viewAlbum.php?albumid=1595

I hope my tone didn't sound like I thought you guys thought she was in the wrong. I re-read, and I it does sound like may have implied that. I promise you that wasn't intended. Forgive me if that was how it appeared
I did talk to her today and she is doing so much better. I passed on all the wonderful advice you ladies have given - that gave her even more peace. She was joking how for atleast the next 3 weeks she will be the hottest momma around with her flat tummy! I will keep you all updated on progress. I'll post Monday and let you know what all the docs say!
You are fine with the way you responded... Just did not want you to feel I was pushing blame on her, the hospital should have done the test, she really felt that there was no way she could be PG, and that is her reason for not pushing the test, she in no way was wrong...
We all are here for her, and please let her know that, k?
And again, she is blessed to have a friend as dear as you, and I'm sure you feel the same about her -- that you are blessed to have a friend as dear as she is....
Hugs to you luv,

Answer
Is it routine to give a pg test always just before surgery, like when you arrive a couple of hours before the surgery? Not where I am. Even before I was no longer fertile (b/c of menopause) I had a couple of cosmetic procedures and surgeries I was never given a pg test just before the operation - because I did not think I could be pg. It might have been part of the usual pre op stuff but I'm not even sure about that. Like when you go for an X-ray, which is known to be harmful, they ask you about being pg and if you say no, they don't do a pg test anyway. I really don't think anyone could have predicted this and I really don't see where any blame could be laid for not doing a test in this case. This whole situation really brings home how little control we have over our lives, sometimes things happen and we have to deal with them. I firmly believe that we never get more than we can handle though.

Answer
I just wanted to add my .02...I had many people ask me how I couldn't have known I was pregnant prior to my wrist/ankle surgery, and the answer is simple: no one tested me. They asked me if I had reason to believe I was, and I didn't, so I said no. But again, my surgery was trauma, and what difference would it have made anyway? I had to have my bones repaired, so it was irrelevant.

Well, I suppose there are different procedures at different hospitals, but I sure wasn't waiting 9 months to have my ankle and wrist repaired. And my son is healthy as a horse (pardon the pun) so obviously the general and other meds didn't do any harm.BA 9/6/05
